Öxabäck brings together a lake right beside the village, church architecture, industrial history and an early tradition of women’s football. This offers different ways to plan a stay: time at Öxasjön, local history or routes through the landscape. The lake has a sandy beach and grassy areas. Walking loops and routes offer further options for shaping your stay according to your interests and preferred distance.

Church and local history

Öxabäck Church was built in 1874–1875 on the site of an older church. Its unusual architecture includes a stair tower reminiscent of Danish churches. Brattåsen in Öxabäck is the highest point in Mark Municipality and adds a geographical landmark to the area’s history.

Långås is an old croft dating from the 19th century and illustrates how people lived in the past. Sockenstugan also takes you far back in time: the building dates from the late 17th century and houses a small museum. Check in advance for current visiting arrangements.

The ground floor of Antikhuset houses a museum about women’s football in Öxabäck. The extensive exhibition focuses on the local women’s team from 1966 to 1999 and includes numerous newspaper clippings and photographs. The team was founded in Öxabäck in 1966 and was among the first of its kind in Sweden. The exhibition thus connects local club history with the early development of women’s football in the country. Check in advance when visits are possible.

Water and routes

A lit loop at Öxasjön is 1.6 km long. The fitness and running routes at Öxasjön range from 1.6 to 13 km. This lets you compare routes with a clearly stated loop length with a wider range of distances. Five more fitness and running routes also start at Hagavallen and are maintained by Öxabäcks VIK.

The Torestorpsturerna routes pass between Torestorp, Älekulla and Öxabäck through old agricultural landscapes, deep forests and scenic areas. The route follows small gravel and asphalt roads with very little traffic. Here, the landscape and road surfaces offer a different guide to choosing a route than the stated distances at Öxasjön.

Brokvarn and recurring events

Brokvarn’s industrial heritage includes a water-powered mill and a sawmill, both owned by Öxabäcks hembygdsförening. There is also a nature trail that takes about 30 minutes to walk. Brokvarn is also home to the stone-block bridge Ridspången, which dates from a medieval bridle path between Denmark and Stockholm. The mill, sawmill, trail and bridge each represent a different aspect of local history.

Öxabäcks hembygdsförening holds annual activities at Långås, including a Christmas celebration and a Slåttergille harvest festival. Glöggatrövet is an annual tradition in the forest around Stockasjöarna. It includes a quiz walk, stations serving warm glögg and other activities. If an event is the reason for your trip, check in advance which dates fall within your travel period.

Öxabäck Torestorpsvägen is a stop on Västtrafik route 371. The stated timetable is valid from 14 December 2025 to 12 December 2026. Check the timetable for departures that suit your travel date.
