Kinna combines a strong textile tradition with historic sites, trails and green landscapes. When planning a stay, a simple question can help: would you mainly like to discover the textile heritage and local history, or focus more on outdoor activities? Kinna and its wider surroundings offer something for both interests.

Textile history and local culture

Kinna is known for its world-famous textile tradition; several textile shops and factory outlets are located in the town. This has earned Mark the name Tygriket, the “Kingdom of Fabrics.” A cultural history cycling tour also explores this theme. The Förläggargårdsturen runs through the Sjuhärad textile district and is 55 kilometres long. This makes it a different option from a stroll through Kinna; when planning the tour, take the full route length and your own schedule into account.

In front of Kinna Library stands “Väverskan,” a bronze statue by Britt-Marie Jern, unveiled in 1982. It symbolises the women whose work helped shape the region’s development. The library is in the centre, next to the town hall. It has books, computers for internet access and a copying service. As library services and rules may change, it is a good idea to check the latest information before your visit.

Another place to go for a walk is Mariebergsparken, on the outskirts of Kinna. The local heritage park features carefully preserved historic buildings and a reconstruction of a Viking house inspired by the Nordic Iron Age. The site thus combines a route between historic buildings with a close-up look at a reconstructed architectural style. In the centre, Häljadalen offers a different, green setting: you can take a short walk or relax on a bench.

Trails and landscapes around Kinna

The Mjögasjöslingan is a hiking trail around Lake Mjögasjön and connects to the approximately 30-kilometre-long Ekleden trail. Kinna also has several hiking trails, jogging tracks and cycling routes, as well as barbecue areas with wind shelters. If you would rather consider a longer themed cycling tour, the Förläggargårdsturen is a cultural history route through the Sjuhärad textile district. These options vary in focus, so the type of route and planned distance are useful points of comparison when making your plans.

The Gäddevik nature reserve lies south of Kinna, right by Lake Östra Öresjön. Deciduous woodland, steep rocky slopes, old, sturdy trees and open areas alternate here. Swimming is possible from a sandy beach and smooth rocks. Assbergs raviner nature reserve is near Skene and Kinna. Its 430-metre-long nature trail has a firm surface and is suitable for pushchairs and people using various mobility aids.

Some activities depend on the season or weather: during the winter season, Kinna has several cross-country ski trails. When the lakes around the town freeze over, they also offer the opportunity to go ice skating. The two activities therefore depend on different conditions: the ski trails are available in winter, while skating requires frozen lakes.

Getting here and more things to do

At Kinna station, the travel centre offers train and bus connections to Varberg, Borås and Gothenburg. As services and timetables may change, it is best to check times for your travel date. Backagårdsbadet, at Snickaregatan 21, is a place to visit during your stay in town. The seasonal swimming pool is open in summer; it has a 25-metre pool with a maximum depth of 1.7 metres and a beach for the little ones. Parking is available on Gärdesvägen in Kinna.

Pay and Play is available at the Marks Golfklubb course in Lydde. As the arrangement may change, check whether it is available before your visit. Overall, you can plan a visit to Kinna around your own interests: textile history and historic sites sit alongside local trails, a hiking connection and nature experiences in the wider area.
