Horred can be explored through a range of interests: the local church and local history museum offer points of interest for architectural and local history; textile production and outdoor activities provide further highlights. When planning, practical route conditions and seasonal dates are particularly important.
Church and Local History
Horred Church stands on a hill and offers views across the Viskadalen. The nave was built in 1792 and altered in 1828; the tower was also added at that time. The nave is the main part of a church building, linking both dates to a specific part of the building.
The local heritage association’s museum is located at Klockaregården in Horred. The Hembygdsgården Klockaregården is home to a unique stone mangle from the 19th century. The museum also has a copy of the spherical button that is believed to have caused the death of Charles XII. Here, a historic craft object and a story linked to a possible cause of death come together.
Textile Production at Ekelundhuset
At Ekelundhuset, visitors can follow textile production from yarn to finished product. On a guided tour of the factory, they can see a Jacquard loom dating from around 1850. These offer different points of interest: the production process describes how the items are made, while the loom is a specific historical example. The café and restaurant at Ekelundhuset serve coffee, cakes and light lunches. As tour and dining details may change, check the current tour options and café offerings in advance.
Swimming Area at Hornsjön
Hornsjön, also known as Lilla Horredssjön, has a swimming area with jetties and grassy areas. To find the swimming area, turn off road rv 41 shortly north of Horred in the direction of Kilatorpet; after about 1 km, the swimming area is on the left. The directions provide an approximate landmark to help you find the swimming area.
Routes and Their Conditions
At Helsjön in Horred, the Strandvägen (blue) hiking trail is closed from 1 March to 1 August to protect sensitive birdlife. None of the sports and hiking trails at Helsjön in Horred are recommended for strollers. This distinction matters when choosing a route: the Strandvägen closure applies during the specified period, while the stroller recommendation applies to all the sports and hiking trails mentioned at Helsjön. The HSK Rundan starts and ends at Horredshallen, making it both the starting point and the finish.
Hittaut: Find Checkpoints in Different Ways
Hittaut is a free outdoor activity in which participants search for checkpoints using a paper map or the Hittaut app. You can take part on foot, running, by bicycle or in a wheelchair. There are two ways to navigate: a paper map or the app. Checkpoints are located in Horred and other places in Mark. The activity periods are seasonal, so check in advance which dates fit your visit. When planning for Hittaut, both the available ways to get around and the seasonal period are relevant.
