The Göteborg Horse Park in Säve combines an annual sports program with a precisely described track layout: the outdoor arena measures 65 × 110 meters and has an adjacent warm-up arena. Säve Church and the Brunstorp burial ground also offer distinct cultural and historical themes. This gives you specific priorities when choosing a place to stay in Säve: equestrian sports and local history.

Equestrian Sports at the Göteborg Horse Park

Every year, competitions, training sessions and other activities in many disciplines take place at the Göteborg Horse Park; the Göteborg Hästsportklubb holds competitions and training sessions there for ponies and horses. The facilities include the 65 × 110-meter outdoor arena with an adjacent warm-up arena, as well as an oval track and a pace track, which are used for training sessions and competitions.

You can ride there without booking in advance for your own use. You can also book a single use or reserve the arenas exclusively for up to four hours. Check in advance whether your preferred type of use is available on your chosen date.

Göteborg Galopp: Racecourse and Tours

The Göteborg Galopp racecourse is located at Sävefältet in Gothenburg. All races are held on a large grass track with a circumference of just over 1,900 meters. Some steeplechase races take place during the season from May to October; there is also a sand track inside the grass track for training.

On tours, visitors can see horses up close as they leave the starting stalls and meet a jockey and possibly a trainer. Check tour availability before your trip. Visitors can also watch races from close to the horses and take part in outdoor activities such as picnics and children's activities; the specific program may vary.

Säve Church and Its History

Säve Church is believed to date from the 13th century; the medieval parish church was converted into a hall church in the 18th century. Its ceiling paintings were created in two phases. In 1704, Christian Schönfeldt painted the barrel vault in the older part of the church.

Brunstorp Burial Ground: Burial Mounds and Nature

The Brunstorp burial ground is on the hill opposite and slightly west of Säve's old station building, on Högagårdsvägen in northern Hisingen. Several large and small burial mounds lie in the field. A small path from Högagårdsvägen leads up the hill to the right of a light beige telecommunications building.

A lot of field scabious grows here; in late summer, it attracts many different species of butterfly. Which species are present varies from year to year. A visit to the burial ground can therefore also be combined with a seasonal look at nature.

Aeroseum and Bus Connections

The cultural and historical Aeroseum showcases the history and development of aviation, from Icarus to modern aircraft, helicopters and other flying vehicles. Bus 35 runs from Hjalmar Brantingsplatsen to the Säve Depå stop, which is used for visits to Aeroseum. Route 137 runs between Kärna, Säve and Hjalmar Brantingsplatsen.

The current timetable for Route 137 runs until December 12, 2026. Check departures before travelling; the route taken by Bus 35 may also change. For the Säve Trail Run, the start and finish area is at the Säve SK clubhouse at Tåfjällsvägen 15, 423 71 Säve.
