Floby brings together a distinctive landscape of stone walls, trails through cultural landscapes and forests, and the history of Floby Church. Between the nature reserve, various routes and historic buildings, there are several ways to discover the area. When planning, the routes differ mainly in their length, landscape and markings.
Stone walls and trails through the landscape
Väsmestorp Nature Reserve lies just north of the village of Floby. Large, carefully built stone walls shape the landscape there. The area also has an old timber-built watermill and other historically interesting cultural remains.
From Floby station, an easy walk of about 1 km leads northeast to the nature reserve. The approximate distance and direction provide a practical guide if you want to reach Väsmestorp on foot.
Flobyrundan is just over 10 km long and passes through beautiful scenery with many different types of natural environments. Vilskeleden has different features: it follows paths and roads through cultural landscapes and forests, as well as through some residential blocks in Floby. One of the sights along Vilskeleden is Ljusningshögen in Floby. The routes can thus be distinguished by their stated length or course and by the landscapes they pass through.
Within Floby, Vilskeleden is marked with the Brynolf symbol and an orange line on the lampposts. By contrast, Varaslätten has only a digital cycling map; there are no markings on the ground.
At Torrevalla, the illuminated running track is groomed for cross-country skiing in winter. Whether it can be groomed depends on snow conditions. This is a different seasonal focus from the hiking trails described above.
Church, garden and other places
Floby Church was built in 1844–1845 on the site of an older church. Its tower chamber, which has windows, was built in 1877–1878; it is said to offer far-reaching views. The two construction phases give the church its own historical dimension.
Outside Floby is Alphems Arboretum, a visitor garden with one of Sweden’s largest collections of trees. At Floby Antikvariat, at least 40,000 books are available; the collection may change.
Getting here and finding your way around
You can reach Floby station by train or bus. It is one of the stations north of AlingsĂĄs with hourly train service. As timetables can change, it is a good idea to check the current schedule before travelling.
Flobybadet is accessible by car and public transport. Another useful place for everyday visitor needs is the playground on Ledsgårdsvägen, which has a picnic table. These destinations complement the nature and culture themes with practical places to visit within Floby.
