In Furet, a short walking loop leads through a historic landscape of old roads: a section of the centuries-old Skara–Lödöse route has been preserved here. The holloways are registered as archaeological sites; Furet covers 55 hectares of woodland. The loop thus brings together forest and traces of an old transport route. The holloways are public spaces and accessible year-round. Check local conditions before setting out.

The Essungaleden is a twelve-kilometre circular route from central Nossebro via Furet and the holloways, returning to Nossebro. You can walk the entire route; cycling is possible for most of it. On the other side of the suspension bridge, by the large oak, there is a barbecue area for visitors to use.

The disused railway line between Nossebro and Essunga station is also used as a walking and cycling path. You can reach the barbecue area in Furet from Nossebro on foot or by bike via the old railway track. Churches and historic places

The present-day building of Kyrkås kyrka dates from the late 17th century. The church is known as a votive church. Travellers and sick people from near and far made offerings in the hope of receiving help in times of need. Fåglums kyrka is one of Sweden’s oldest churches; its origins date back to the early Middle Ages. Inside is a medieval image of the Madonna. Väderkvarnen i Fåglum was built in 1885 and moved to its present location in 1892.

Bärebergs kyrka has medieval roots: a church and cemetery stood there as early as the 13th century. By contrast, the present-day building of Essunga kyrka was built between 1903 and 1905 in the Neoclassical style and has a tall, pointed tower. There has been a church on this site since the Middle Ages. An old bell from the 15th century hangs in the bell tower, built in 1963.
