Ed lies on a peninsula between the lakes Stora Le and Lilla Le; the town surrounds Lilla Le. This setting gives you a clear reference point for finding your way around, while nature reserves, hiking trails, a church and a museum offer different themes for a stay. When choosing a trail, it’s worth considering not just its length but also its route and features.

Ed between lakes and nature reserves

SkansenomrĂĄdet is in central Ed and is a nature reserve with a rich variety of flora and a park-like character. About 8 km north of Ed, on the eastern shore of Stora Le, lies the Stora Les branter nature reserve. It is home to old, large trees, as well as rare plants, lichens and mosses, and various bird species.

Hiking trails by length and route

The hiking trails vary in length and route. Orange leden is 3.9 km long and follows forest paths around Sågtjärn. Blåa leden is 11.3 km long; a large part of it runs within the town, and the route is gently hilly. Röda leden is 24.5 km long and goes around the town, passing north of Tavlan. These offer a forest-path loop, a route that spends much of its length in town, and a considerably longer trail around the town.

Vita leden is 4.6 km long and follows the shore of Lilla Le along paths, gravel areas and paved roads through residential areas. The approximately 8 km-long Istidsleden has a different focus: information boards explain how the inland ice shaped the landscape around Ed. Gröna Leden passes a recreation park by Timmertjärn. Facilities there include a playground, a multipurpose court, a shelter, a barbecue hut and jetties.

Museum, church and market

Eds MC- och motormuseum is in the town centre, in the basement of the Willys grocery store; the museum and store share the same entrance. The collection includes around 150 vintage motorcycles, mopeds and outboard motors from several countries. The museum also displays 300 radios. Dals-Eds kyrka stands on higher ground beside Lilla Le and is linked to the medieval tradition of pilgrimages to Nidaros.

Ed’s market has been held almost uninterruptedly in modern times since 8 October 1949, with a break during the coronavirus pandemic. It takes place in spring and autumn, and children can enjoy pony rides. Traffic through the town centre is closed during the market. As traffic arrangements may vary for each edition, check the information for the specific market before your visit.
