Resö combines an active fishing harbour with traces of cultural history, hiking trails and swimming spots on sand and rock. This brings three perspectives to the fore when planning a holiday: past and present fishing life, local history, and coastal trails and recreation.
Fishing and Harbour Life
Fishing is still carried out in the harbour; today, it focuses mainly on prawns and Norway lobster. Depending on the season, you can buy fresh seafood directly from fishing boats. It is best to place your order by phone with the boats. Today’s fishing differs from the herring industry of the past: during the herring season from 1877 to 1904, there were as many as 14 herring salteries on Resö.
The guest harbour offers shore power connections, fresh water or the option to take on water, a pump-out station, showers, toilets, a laundry room and a boat crane. The operation and availability of harbour facilities may change; check the latest information before using them.
Church, Local Heritage Museum and Cultural Heritage Trails
Resö Church was inaugurated in 1916. It is built of wood and clad in tarred oak shingles. Today, visitors can once again see blue-grey colours and beautiful Art Nouveau ornaments in the church. “Johans gård” is also located on Holmsbacken and now serves as a local heritage museum.
Those interested in local history can also find a special hiking map on Resö: it leads to places of cultural and historical interest marked with information boards. Check locally to see whether the map is available. The marked sites give history its own place alongside the fishing harbour and the church, without requiring you to follow a particular route.
Hiking and Swimming on the Coast
Resö has hiking trails. Guided walks are also offered along the coast, where visitors learn about biodiversity and life beneath the water’s surface. Guided programmes may vary seasonally; check the dates in advance.
The swimming spots offer different types of shore: Resö has both sandy beaches and rocky coastlines. Hamneholmen has a bathing jetty and a diving tower. As the facilities are subject to local maintenance, check their condition before visiting. This makes it easy to choose between beach and rocky coastline, while the bathing jetty and diving tower identify specific facilities on Hamneholmen.
Access to Protected Coastal Areas
Resö is the southern gateway to the marine Kosterhavet National Park. The nearby Trossö-Kalvö-Lindö Nature Reserve can be reached from Resö harbour by water taxi. Check the boat’s operating arrangements before travelling. The national park entrance and the water taxi trip offer two distinct ways to explore the protected coastal and marine landscape.
Entré Resö is also located at the harbour, with its own jetty where excursion and leisure boats can moor. As visitor facilities may change, check the latest information about using the jetty in advance.
