Borås can be explored through distinct themes: public art, textiles, nature trails, and playful discoveries in science and technology. The offerings range from an extensive collection of art in the urban environment to short and longer routes. When planning your trip, it helps to choose the areas that interest you most.

Public art and textile history

Within a radius of just under 1.5 kilometres, Borås has more than a hundred sculptures, installations and murals that belong to the city’s public art collection. Borås Konstmuseum presents exhibitions of national and international contemporary art and offers guided tours of the city’s public art. The Borås Art Biennial has been held every two years since 2008; it was previously called Borås Internationella Skulpturbiennal. Together, exhibitions, guided tours and a recurring art event offer different ways to experience art in Borås.

At Textilmuseet, the Textil Kraft exhibition illustrates the production process, from fibre to finished fabric: several textile machines are in operation there. Another way to get involved is the DIY area, where tools and materials are freely available for visitors’ sewing projects. The difference is practical: the exhibition focuses on the production process, while the DIY area is for your own sewing project.

Nature trails and hiking routes

Rya Åsar is a municipal nature reserve established in 2001. From the Rya klint viewpoint, you can see across Borås. For bus planning, Björbostugan is the nearest stop to the nature reserve; one of the entrances is about 200 metres from there. This distance refers to that entrance and is approximate.

The hiking trails differ in both length and character. Hestra Ekås is nine kilometres long, passes through spruce forests and gently rolling terrain, and is of moderate difficulty. Rya Åsar Rävstigen is 800 metres long and is a discovery trail for children, with various play features along the way. In practical terms, Hestra Ekås is a moderately difficult hike, while Rävstigen is shorter and focuses on discovery and play features.

The Sjuhäradsleden has two different lengths to bear in mind: the section that passes through Borås is 47 kilometres long, while the entire trail is 140 kilometres and forms part of the E1 European long-distance path. This distinction helps avoid confusing the section through Borås with the length of the entire route. The Sjuhäradsrundan runs between Borås, Ulricehamn, Tranemo and Svenljunga, offering a regional perspective for planning your trip.

More experiences and practical information

Around 300 animals from 42 different species live at Borås Djurpark. The park is also a centre for species conservation, biodiversity and research. Navet has a different focus: at this science centre, visitors can explore science and technology through play. Navet is centrally located in Borås, close to a bus stop and the railway station.

Almenäs lekplats at Almenäs badplats can be reached by bus, bicycle or car; there is a large car park right next to it. Check access information before travelling, as it may change. For planning outdoor activities, Borås’ outdoor maps show hiking trails, cycling routes, bathing spots and other areas for outdoor recreation. This lets you take different trail and excursion interests into account when planning, without treating them as one set route.
