Excursions in the wider region

When looking for hotels in Daejeon, you can also base your travel plans on the attractions in the wider region. Options range from the landmark tower of the Daejeon World Expo and a water plaza with a musical fountain to a city arboretum, forest attractions and a market with themed alleys. Each destination offers a different focus: architecture and the Expo, education and relaxation, forest views, or shopping and food. So consider which of these interests is most important to your trip. This is a useful first step before choosing the regional options that will shape your stay.

Expo connections: tower and fountain

Hanbit Tower is the landmark tower of the Daejeon World Expo. Daejeon Expo Park has a water plaza with a musical fountain. These two Expo-related attractions offer different experiences: the tower focuses on architecture, while the park features the water plaza. If you plan to see the fountain, check its operating hours in advance.

City arboretum and relaxation

Hanbat Arboretum is Korea’s largest artificially created urban arboretum. It serves as an ecological learning center for school students and as a recreational area. This sets it apart from a single architectural landmark: it combines designated educational and recreational functions. If you are more interested in this combination than in the Expo theme when planning your trip, the arboretum is a distinct regional option.

Forest views in Jangtaesan

At Jangtaesan Natural Recreation Forest, the Skyway lets you walk at the height of the Metasequoia forest. From Sky Tower, you can see the landscape of the recreational forest. The difference between the two spots is clear: the Skyway focuses on a path at forest level, while the tower offers a view of the landscape. The forest also has an ecological pond, an educational botanical garden and a forest adventure course. Groups and families can sign up for the “숲체험” forest experience program. If you are considering the program as part of your plans, check in advance whether a suitable date is available.

The nature destinations have distinct features: the arboretum combines education and relaxation, while Jangtaesan pairs the Skyway and Sky Tower with other forest attractions.

Market alleys and shopping

Daejeon Jungang Market offers a different kind of exploration. Its themed alleys feature agricultural and fishery products, fashion, home textiles and wedding goods; there are also sundae stalls and prepared foods. The market is therefore organized differently from the nature and Expo destinations: visitors can explore by theme and product category. To decide how to approach a market visit, first consider whether you are more interested in the product categories or the food options. The alleys offer something for a range of interests.
