Ribnik Blato is located in the village of Blato near Trebnje. Its origins link the body of water to the disused ceramic tile industry in Račje Selo: the pond was created after a clay pit was rehabilitated. To understand the place, two periods therefore belong together—the former industrial use and the subsequent rehabilitation that gave rise to Ribnik.

Ribnik between village and countryside

The local connection to the pond also shapes its character. Anglers and villagers have brought new life to the area known as “blata”; locals describe it as a peaceful part of the village. Members of the Ribiška družina Novo mesto maintain Ribnik and its surroundings. To understand the place, you can consider its origins alongside local use and care.

During a nature outing at Ribnik Blato in 2025, people observed life in and around the water. In a school activity that same year, pupils used an orienteering trail around the pond. These examples show two different ways of experiencing the same body of water: observing nature and finding your way around the surrounding area. On the way to Ribnik, you can also see a “toplar”—a double kozolec—which was relocated and restored in 2004.

Pitch & Putt as a distinct focus

The Blato golf course is certified as a Pitch & Putt course by the Pitch & Putt Association of Slovenia. This specifies the type of course more precisely than the general term golf alone. A 2018 municipal publication mentions a covered practice area at the Blato golf facility, where people could also practise in the rain. Before visiting, check whether this area is currently available and what operating conditions apply.

The activities for children and groups can also be clearly dated: in the 2021 season, the Blato Pitch&Putt Golf Club programme included regular weekly lessons for children and other groups, as well as a golf camp for children. If golf is a major focus of your trip, check current training and visiting options in advance.

Kozolec, museum, and leisure activities

You can visit a small ethnological museum beneath an old toplar at Okrepčevalnica Florijan. It uses original old objects to show part of the local history. Another specific connection to the toplar is the structure on the way to Ribnik: it was relocated and restored in 2004 and is described as a double kozolec. This lets you encounter the building type and the local history in different contexts.

Okrepčevalnica Florijan offers leisurely walks by the lake as a recreational activity, as well as short organised hikes. These complement visits to the museum and activities around Ribnik with more ways to spend time outdoors. If you would like to plan an organised hike, check the date in advance.
