At Terme Šmarješke Toplice, you can enjoy thermal pools at 32 °C all year round. The Aleksandrov and Petrov indoor pools are also each heated to 32 °C. Pool availability may change, so check the latest information before your visit.
Thermal Baths and Treatments
A historic feature is the wooden pool above the thermal spring. It was built as early as the late 18th century and operates seasonally. This distinguishes it from the thermal pools, which are available year-round. Vitarium Spa & Clinique offers beauty treatments, anti-stress baths, body wraps and massages. So, alongside swimming, the offering also includes specific treatments.
Spa Park and Trails
At the center of the spa park, beside the botanical trail, is a pond fed by a warm-water spring. Indian lotus has been growing there for years and is considered exceptionally rare. It blooms seasonally. The pond and the plant bring a different focus from the pools: here, water and a single plant species shape the view of the spa park.
The Vinji vrh Archaeological Trail starts in Šmarješke Toplice and makes a circular route. It is 8 kilometers long, with an elevation gain of 230 meters. The Šmarješke Toplice–Trebelno section of the Ema Pilgrimage Trail leads from the thermal baths via Žaloviče and Koglo, along the Radulja and past the village of Roje to Trebelno. The two trails also differ in the information provided: the Archaeological Trail has a stated length and elevation gain, while the Ema section focuses on its route and destinations.
A hiking and cycling route passes the tennis courts, goes through Lutrško selo and Dobovo, and continues through a beautiful forest to Terme Šmarješke Toplice. Route conditions may change; check them before setting out.
Landscape and Ancient History
The hypothermal Klevevška Toplica spring rises beneath a large rock beside a short tributary on the right bank of the Radulja. It is enclosed in a small pool and has a temperature of 21 to 25 °C. The Radulja gorge begins at the Klevevž bathing area and is characterized by numerous small waterfalls and pools. Klevevž Castle dates back to 1265 and is an important cultural heritage monument in Šmarješke Toplice.
The archaeological history is also tangible: a heavily fortified settlement was established on Vinji Vrh as early as the Iron Age, as evidenced by finds in burial grounds. Those particularly interested in history when choosing a tour will find different points of interest, from the archaeological circular trail to the castle and the history of the settlement.
Culture and Culinary Delights in Šmarjeta
The municipality also includes Šmarjeta. The parish church there contains the mural “Crucifixion,” by an unknown Italian artist, which is considered an important treasure of Slovenian religious painting. In Šmarjeta, the “Izvir cvička” wine fountain offers tastings of Cviček and the three main components of this Dolenjska specialty. Wines from the surrounding vineyards are also available there. As tasting availability may vary, it is best to check the offer in advance.
Beekeeping is another point of interest: Čebelarstvo Gorenc offers a beekeeping museum and a wide selection of honey products; the offer is intended for individual visitors and groups. As visit arrangements may change, confirm the details of your visit in advance.
