Two monuments give Hrib pri Hinjah distinct historical associations: one commemorates locals who died on various fronts during the First World War, while the other is dedicated to partisans, hostages and victims of fascist violence. The surrounding area offers cycling and shorter and longer walks. This places memorial sites and outdoor activities side by side as different interests to consider when planning a trip.
Two monuments, different memories
The monument “Hrib pri Hinjah – Grob s spomenikom padlim” consists of two roughly hewn stone blocks. One of the blocks commemorates six fallen partisans, three partisans of foreign nationality, three hostages and 22 victims of fascist violence. The list distinguishes several groups and specifies the monument’s commemorative purpose. The monument stands on a rocky slope below the village of Hrib, at the junction where the road to Prevole branches off.
The monument “Hrib pri Hinjah – Spomenik padlim med I. svetovno vojno” stands at the western edge of the village cemetery. It has a triangular ground plan and rises in steps. It was erected before 1940 and commemorates locals who died on various fronts during the First World War. The construction date and the period commemorated should be distinguished: “Before 1940” refers to the erection of the monument, not to when the deaths occurred. This monument also differs in form from the two roughly hewn stone blocks.
