When choosing accommodation in Hočko Pohorje, information about the mountain station and ski slopes is a practical starting point. Cycling and hiking trails also show the different ways to explore the Pohorje: with views across the plain and rolling hills, on paths through forests, or along traces of historic industries.

Ski area and accommodation locations

In the vicinity of Hočko Pohorje, Slovenia’s largest ski centre covers 250 ha. Its slopes are suitable for children and other beginners as well as more advanced skiers. This range can help with planning when people with different levels of experience are travelling together. Seasonal operations and changes may affect the features of the ski area, so check current conditions before your trip.

Pohorje Village Wellbeing Resort at Hočko Pohorje 133 is 300 m from the mountain station of the Pohorska Vzpenjača cable car and Slovenia’s largest ski area. For Pohorski dom, the stated distance to the cable car mountain station is five minutes; the accommodation is a one-minute walk from the ski slopes. The details use different reference points: for the resort, they give the distance in metres to the mountain station and ski area, while for Pohorski dom, they give a travel time to the mountain station and a walking distance to the slopes. This makes the two locations easy to compare without describing them in the same way.

Cycling routes with views and forest sections

The cycling route “Sp. Hoče – Zg. Hoče – Hočko Pohorje – Šestdobe – Slivnica – Sp. Hoče” runs mostly along quiet asphalt and gravel roads, as well as paths through forests and across grassy slopes. It offers views of the Dravsko polje plain and the surrounding rolling hills, including Boč, the “štajerski Triglav”, and Donačka gora. Varied surfaces and broad landscapes come together here.

Another cycling route runs from Sp. Hoče via Pivola, Hočko Pohorje and Zg. Hoče, back to Sp. Hoče. It passes through forests, by pastures and meadows; occasional openings offer views of the slopes of the Pohorje and the Dravsko polje plain. The route also passes the Botanical Garden of the University of Maribor. When choosing, you can weigh up whether you prefer the road and path surfaces specifically described for the first route or the forest and meadow sections of the second.

Hiking and cultural traces

The “Rečka zeleno-modra pot” trail connects Hoče with Bellevue and is considered an easy hiking route. It leads through forests, along forest roads and paths, past the edges of meadows, and by pastures and farms. Along the way, there are views into the valley and, in some sections, burbling streams. This hike focuses both on the landscape along the way and on Bellevue as its destination.

“Pot mlinov in žag” offers a different kind of discovery: the trail follows a stream and passes former mills, sawmills, stamp mills and a smithy. These historic traces set it apart from routes whose descriptions primarily highlight forests, meadows or views.

In the wider Mariborsko Pohorje area, the Bolfenk Energy Trail begins near the mountain station of the Pohorska Vzpenjača. It leads through the extensive forests of the Pohorje to seven healing points. Bolfenk Restaurant also welcomes hikers, cyclists and skiers in its immediate surroundings; check opening hours before visiting.
