A Baroque altar sculpture, the Chapel of Mary, and the Snežka Mushroom Learning Park offer different ways to explore Dobrovce. The cultural sites tell stories of architecture, art, and remembrance; in the park, mushrooms, animals, and plants take center stage. Plan your stay around local history, nature education, or a cycling route.
Church of St. Mary: Building Period and Artwork
The Church of St. Mary in Dobrovce was built between 1924 and 1934 and is dedicated to Mary, Queen of Peace. It is recognized as an immovable cultural heritage monument. Its construction period and dedication offer two different points of reference: one places the church’s construction in its historical context, while the other identifies its religious dedication.
Its most significant artwork is a Baroque altar sculpture of Mary with the Christ Child. It comes from the parish church in Slivnica, was transferred to the old village chapel in Dobrovce in 1840, and was later moved to the newly built church. This sequence connects the artwork with different sacred sites and building periods.
Chapel of Mary and Memorial Site
The Chapel of Mary in Dobrovce is an enclosed chapel of the kind built in the 19th century. It contains a contemporary statue of Mary by academic sculptor Marjan Dreva. Its local history is also well documented: when the intersection of Kidričeva cesta and Šolska ulica was widened, the chapel was moved a short distance from its original location in the first half of the 1990s.
The monument and mass grave of the hostages in Dobrovce are recognized as an immovable cultural heritage memorial site. They add a distinct focus on remembrance alongside architectural and art history.
Snežka Mushroom Learning Park: Learning Along Marked Trails
The Snežka Mushroom Learning Park covers 2,000 square meters. Its paths are marked with information boards. A report from 2024 described the park as a learning site where visitors could learn about mushrooms, the mushroom-picking code of conduct, and certain animals and plants. Its nature-related focus therefore extends beyond the mushrooms in the park’s name.
A report from 2024 also mentioned nesting birds and an insect hotel in the Mushroom Learning Park beside the Dobrovce football field. Guided tours are offered at the Snežka Mushroom Learning Park and along a forest educational trail. Check in advance for current access to the park and the arrangements for visiting on a guided tour.
Cycling Route to Miklavž
A cycle path runs through Dobrovce and continues to Miklavž. If you plan to use this route, check the current route locally before setting off. This lets you plan around the cycle route, while a visit to the park involves separate arrangements.
For your day’s plans, a guided tour and a cycle route are two separate choices: for the tour, check the park’s visiting arrangements; for the cycle ride, check the current route. First decide which activity you would like to include in your stay, then plan accordingly.
