Podgorje offers two specific perspectives for planning a trip: a regional cycling route and several historical and cultural connections to the place. These include a church designated as cultural heritage, the birthplaces of two notable people, and a wayside shrine with a distinctive local history.

Cycling route and planned course

The regional Kamnik–Mengeš–Trzin–Ljubljana cycling route opened on 5 April 2023; construction was completed in 2022. The figure for the connection between Kamnik and Ljubljana includes 13.7 kilometres of new cycling routes. The four place names refer to the regional route, while the distance figure describes new cycling routes between Kamnik and Ljubljana. For Podgorje, the municipal route plan envisaged starting in the village. The planned route ran across Dupliško polje, eastwards along an existing field track to the railway line, and then southwards to Korenova cesta. This distinguishes the 2023 opening from the plans described for Podgorje.

Zaprice Castle and the route described in 2018

A fairy-tale forest route described in 2018 led from the church in Podgorje to Zaprice Castle, home to the Intermunicipal Museum Kamnik. The walk was listed as taking about 40 minutes each way at a leisurely pace; walking time may vary depending on conditions. Based on this estimate, a return trip would take about 80 minutes, provided the same time estimate applies in both directions. The programme at the time included exploring mysterious animals in the castle lapidarium and storytelling in one of the castle's halls.

For trip planning, these figures are not interchangeable: 13.7 kilometres refers to new cycling routes between Kamnik and Ljubljana, while about 40 minutes is the estimated walking time for the castle route described in 2018. The 2023 opening date places the regional route in time; it is not a walking or cycling time.

Cultural heritage, literature, and cookbook history

The Church of St. Nicholas in Podgorje pri Kamniku is designated as cultural heritage unit EŠD 1880. Two biographies also connect Podgorje pri Kamniku with cultural history: the writer Josip Ogrinec was born there in 1844; Felicita (Terezija) Kalinšek was born there too and is known as the author of a well-known Slovenian cookbook. Ogrinec represents literature and Kalinšek cookbook history; their lives add personal cultural stories to the church's built heritage.

Krvavo znamenje and the history of the place

The so-called Krvavo znamenje in Podgorje dates to 1510. The wayside shrine stands at a site where death sentences were once carried out. The year refers to the shrine, while the historical background concerns the site's former use. The cycling route and the local history appeal to different interests: the first has a regional focus, while the second centres on specific buildings, biographies, and the past of a particular site.
