In Tanča Gora, churches and vernacular architecture meet a challenging cycling route and opportunities for outdoor activities. The different details offer you a range of starting points for planning your trip: culture enthusiasts will find specific examples of protected architecture, while cyclists can take on a challenge with clearly defined difficulty ratings.

Churches and Vernacular Architecture

Cerkev sv. Ane, the Church of St. Anne, is listed as a cultural monument under EŠD 1802. Its notable features include original stone paving in the vestibule and interior. Original wall plaster and paintings have also been preserved; possible paintings beneath the whitewash are protected as well. Cerkev sv. Tomaža, the Church of St. Thomas, is distinguished by its isolated location. One of the church bells dates from 1736. It was made by bell founder Jožef Samassa from Ljubljana.

Farm buildings are also part of the local heritage. Šuštarjeva kašča is listed as a cultural monument under EŠD 25915. Its protected features include the ground plan and stone construction. Miklavova domačija is listed in Slovenia’s cultural heritage register as architectural heritage under EŠD 27138. Tanča Gora thus highlights both specific architectural features and the classification of a farmstead.

Cycling and Outdoor Activities

The White Carniola Cycling Route branches off toward Tanča Gora and climbs for about two kilometres up to the village. The route is considered physically demanding; the ascent is rated V3 and the descent S3. These ratings can help you assess whether the cycling section suits your tour plans.

Another opportunity for outdoor activity is Pri Murnu, which has a private tennis court that can be reserved. It is intended for singles matches, group training and friendly matches. There is also a covered picnic area with a wooden shelter, stone grill and seating, as well as a summer kitchen in a green setting. Pri Murnu is open seasonally from April to October; visits are possible by prior arrangement.

Vineyards and Regional Cuisine

The Bahor tourist farm is situated on a small hill among vineyards, with views across the valley. Its address is Tanča Gora 88, 8343 Dragatuš, Slovenia. House specialities include roast lamb and roast suckling pig. Freshly baked bread and smoked meat products are also available; the menu may vary. Bela Krajina wines can be purchased there.

Historical Observations of Plant Life

Local plant life is also associated with specific observation sites. On 3 June 2016, the bee orchid (Ophrys apifera) was recorded 50 metres east of the Church of St. Thomas, at an altitude of 240 metres above sea level. For the fly orchid (Orchis coriophora), the same observation date gives a location 80 metres southeast of the church, at an altitude of 238 metres. These are historical records, not a guarantee that the orchids can be seen today.
