Kvašov lies in the northern part of the White Carpathians. Its history spans prehistoric archaeological sites and a Slavic settlement, as well as Ostrá Hora, a chapel in the centre, and named cycling and hiking routes. If you are looking for a holiday apartment for a stay in Kvašov, these points of interest can help you plan: you can focus on history, nature, or active excursions.

Ostrá Hora and archaeological traces

Ostrá Hora rises to 492 m above sea level in a lower-lying part of Kvašov. The hillfort there was already inhabited in the Late Bronze Age and the Early Iron Age. Archaeological finds include stone and bronze objects, a bone awl, and a small clay figurine. The settlement period and various specific types of finds are therefore part of the area’s history.

Settlements from different eras

People were already living at the Starice and Hôrka archaeological sites in the Neolithic period, 3,000 to 4,000 years BC. A Slavic settlement existed below Ostrá Hora, near Majer, in the 8th and 9th centuries. The Starice and Hôrka sites therefore represent a different period and location from the later settlement near Majer.

The Chapel of the Seven Sorrows of the Virgin Mary, built in 1973, stands in the centre of Kvašov. A cross depicting Jesus Christ stands in front of the chapel. Its location in the village centre and its year of construction give this site a clear connection to the more recent history of the area, distinct from the prehistoric archaeological sites.

Stream and plant life

The Kvašov stream, also called Suchlica, flows through Kvašov. It is 8.4 km long, a right-bank tributary of the Lednica, and a fourth-order watercourse. Its source is in the White Carpathians, in the Vršatecké bradlá subregion. Kvašov and Suchlica are therefore two names for the same stream.

The municipal development plan for 2015–2025 recorded a total of 189 species of higher plants in Kvašov. Four are classified as rare or endangered: Convallaria majalis, Melittis melissophyllum, Ranunculus auricomus agg. and Scrophularia umbrosa. For the surrounding area, the same plan describes flower-rich meadows with meadow, hedgerow, and woodland plants, as well as species that favour dry, warm, or moist conditions. A great diversity of invertebrates is also part of this description.

Local history and places to stop

The municipal development plan for 2015–2025 listed an inn as a place to stop and described it as a former school building from the First Czechoslovak Republic era. The building is constructed entirely of adobe bricks, and its walls are up to one metre thick. If you plan to stop there, check in advance whether the inn is currently open.

Cycling and hiking

The municipal development plan for 2015–2025 describes a recommended and well-used cycling route through Kvašov that connects to the signposted Váh Cycle Route 002. This route passes through Horovce. The plan also lists the Horovce–Kvašov–Lednica–Dolná Breznica–Lednické Rovne loop as another route used by cyclists.

The plan also records a green-marked hiking trail from Lednické Rovne over the hills around Ostrá Hora to Lednica. This helps distinguish the routes when planning an outing: the cycling loop names five places, while the hiking route connects Lednické Rovne and Lednica via the hills around Ostrá Hora. Check the current route and trail markings before setting out.

A shelter with a fire pit and benches stands at the summit of Ostrá Hora. If you are considering a break there, check the condition of the shelter beforehand.
