The “Števke” house, the Lubená folklore group and the waters in the municipality give Poluvsie a clear connection to culture and nature. When choosing where to stay, you can consider whether you would prefer to focus on traditional architecture and customs, or on the river landscape, wetland habitat and fishing.
Folklore and Regional Tradition
The Lubená folklore group performs traditional songs, dances and customs. The Jozef Strečanský Memorial Event, held annually in Poluvsie, honours the collector and folklorist. If you would like to plan your stay around it, check the dates in advance.
The 2026 programme of the “V poluskej dedine” folklore festival offered visitors the opportunity to take part in a dance school and try traditional crafts in creative workshops. Regional specialities prepared by local housewives were also available to sample. If you are planning a visit for these hands-on activities, check the dates of the relevant edition in advance.
Poluvsie is a traditional fruit-growing region with a long history of apple cultivation. In 2026, the interactive educational game “Michalov poklad” was also developed here as part of Michal’s annual project. If you would like to include it in your stay, check locally before travelling to see whether it is currently available.
The Števke House and Architectural History
The “Števke” house is preserved as a national cultural monument. It belongs to the simple through-passage house type; its lowered attic was used to store grain or goods sensitive to moisture. The small windows on the façade form a row aligned axially with the windows of the living floor.
Those interested in traditional architecture can consider the storage function and façade design together here. The church in Poluvsie also preserves an element of the village’s older history in the form of the altar from the former chapel.
The Nitra, Lubená and the Local Swamp
Poluvsie lies in the Upper Nitra Basin together with neighbouring municipalities and is surrounded on almost all sides by mountain ranges and hills. The Nitra River flows through the municipality. The smaller Lubená stream descends from Zadný diel mountain and also flows through the municipality.
The local swamp is a wetland habitat with a variety of plant species, some of them rare, as well as frogs. It is also used for fishing and, in winter, as a place to play ice hockey. Nature watching and a range of other uses are therefore among the defining features of this area.
Fishing also takes place in the old riverbed of the Nitra, an area visited relatively often by anglers. In addition to its plant and animal species, the swamp provides another fishing spot. If you would like to fish, check the applicable rules in advance.
