Sedmerovec lies in the Ilavské podolie at the foot of the White Carpathians. Its cultural and historical heritage stretches from the Romanesque manor church in the district of Pominovec to a village church and two chapels. These sites reflect different dedications, construction and consecration dates, and religious events. When planning your visit, it is worth keeping the locations distinct: Pominovec lies about 1.5 kilometres southeast of Sedmerovec, while the chapel on Líščia stands above the village.

Pominovec: Romanesque church and visiting

The 12th-century Romanesque manor church stands in the district of Pominovec, which belongs to the cadastral area of Sedmerovec. It is dedicated to Saint John the Baptist and has been a national cultural monument since 7 November 1963. The church stands in the middle of fields between Bolešov and Pruské. The field road leading to it branches off from main road 507 between Nemšová and Pruské.

The site at Pominovec is freely accessible; access to the church interior can be arranged in advance. The church is now rarely used for religious ceremonies. So if you would like to see the interior, plan to make arrangements beforehand.

August cycling pilgrimage

The traditional “Cyklopúť Pominovec” cycling pilgrimage has taken place every year since 2004 on the last Sunday in August. It includes a holy mass, the symbolic blessing of bicycles, and the distribution of Saint Christopher stickers to pilgrims. This event thus combines religious tradition with cycling as an explicitly stated part of the pilgrimage.

Village church and chapels

In the village, the village church and the centrally located chapel are two separate buildings, although both are dedicated to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. The chapel was consecrated in 1927; a solemn church feast mass is held there every year for the Feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. The village church of Sedmerovec was consecrated on 30 June 2002. It was partially renovated in 2022, when the roof covering was replaced and a new façade was installed.

Above Sedmerovec, on Líščia, stands the Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows. It was consecrated on 15 September 1997. A holy mass is usually celebrated at the chapel on 15 September for the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows. The faithful also gather there to pray the rosary, particularly in May.

Planning around religious events

Different dates provide useful reference points when planning your visit: the cycling pilgrimage on the last Sunday in August, the usual mass on Líščia on 15 September, and the particular emphasis on praying the rosary in May. The church feast mass at the central chapel is tied to the Feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. If you are planning to attend a service or the pilgrimage, check the relevant date before travelling.
