Rybany retains a distinctive village layout: the square survives as a Rundling, or circular village green, with an ear-shaped extension. The village lies on the left bank of the Bebrava; its cultural and historical character is also shaped by preserved residential houses and sacred art. If you are looking for an apartment for your stay, these features can help you get a sense of Rybany as a destination. The settlement pattern, architecture and furnishings of two sacred buildings offer different ways to explore the village.

The Square and Regional Architecture

The term Rundling draws attention to the layout of the square. Its ear-shaped extension gives the historic layout a distinctive outline. The historic parcel layout is another feature: the plots around the square are narrow and long. This division describes a different aspect of the village than the layout itself.

The position of the residential houses is also part of this historic structure. The preserved houses are arranged perpendicular to the square; their façades feature Neoclassical and Secessionist elements of regional architecture. The layout, parcel divisions and façades can thus be viewed as three distinct aspects: the shape of the square, the division of its plots and the orientation of the buildings. Those interested in the history of settlements and architecture will find more than a single architectural detail in Rybany.

Rybany also preserves a typical folk costume. This tradition adds a distinct cultural aspect to the architectural features. Together, they offer different ways to understand the village: the shape of the square, the design of the houses and a traditional clothing custom.

Church and Cemetery Chapel

The Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary and the SnĂmania z krĂĹľa Cemetery Chapel represent different aspects of sacred heritage. The church tower houses a bell dating from 1519. Its specific date provides a different historical reference point from the late Baroque altar dating from the 18th century. This altar features a painting of the Assumption of Mary, along with a smaller statue of the PietĂ .

The Snímania z kríža Chapel stands in the cemetery in Rybany and is listed as a national cultural monument under number 12135/1. This late Baroque sacred building dates from the 18th century. Its described architectural features include a rounded end, a small roof turret with a gabled roof and a ribbed vault. These details describe the chapel’s form and construction, while the church bell and altar provide their own art-historical and cultural points of reference.

A 1969 inventory lists an altar of the Descent from the Cross inside the chapel, dating from the late 19th century. The date belongs to this historical record; it should not be confused with the period in which the chapel was built. The two sites can thus also be distinguished by period: the chapel itself dates from the 18th century, while the altar recorded inside it dates from the late 19th century.
