Get to know Koniarovce through its buildings and its location in the Nitra Valley on the river’s floodplain. For trip planning, the railway station on ŽSR line No. 140 and a clearly defined fishing stretch also provide practical reference points. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, these topics can help you decide whether cultural history, landscape or fishing should be the focus of your stay.

Manor House, Garden and Local History

The manor house is an 18th-century Baroque residence. It was remodelled in the 19th and 20th centuries; the building is single-storey, has two wings and an L-shaped floor plan. The historic ornamental garden beside the manor house was redesigned with a new layout of paths. Boxwood parterres and botanically rare woody plants have been preserved to this day; a chapel was converted into a garden pavilion.

The manor house and historic garden were declared cultural monuments in 1993. The restoration was recognised with the Fénix Award for “Cultural Monument of the Year 2017”; the award was presented on 29 November 2018. The brick bell tower was restored in 1992, together with its original bell dating from 1807. In the local cemetery stands a rectangular 19th-century chapel with a folk-style stone Pietà sculpture. A stone cross from 1893 bears a dedicatory inscription by Štefan Matronka and Mária Hacko. Koniarovce also has the new Church of Our Lady of Sorrows and an altar.

Riverside Setting and Getting There

Koniarovce lies in the Nitra Valley on the river’s floodplain. This geographical context complements the view of individual monuments: the buildings reflect the village’s history, while the valley and floodplain describe its landscape setting.

Koniarovce railway station is on ŽSR line No. 140 between Nové Zámky and Prievidza. If you plan to travel by train, check the timetable for your travel date. Historically, the Nitra–Topoľčany railway section, with a stop at Koniarovce, opened on 16 September 1881. A narrow-gauge railway to Oponice operated from 1912 to 1929.

Fishing and Local Culture

Fishing stretch Nitra No. 4 begins at the road bridge in Koniarovce and extends to the mouth of the Vyčoma stream near Praznovce. It also includes the Dršňa and Lišňa tributaries, each from its mouth to its source. If fishing is a focus of your plans, check the fishing regulations for 2026 before your visit.

Singing and customs are also part of local culture. The Koniarovčanka singing group was founded in 2001 and performs at anniversary celebrations and Carnival festivities. Local customs include a folk celebration held in honour of the “Three Deceased Kings”. Together with the buildings, these traditions offer a further glimpse into the cultural side of Koniarovce.
