The fishponds of Ľudovítová were created when former branches of the Nitra were cut off and artificially dammed. Today, they are considered a popular spot for anglers and also serve a recreational purpose. Ľudovítová lies in the southeastern part of the Nitrianska sprašová pahorkatina on a small rise on the right bank of the Nitra; the municipality extends across both sides of the river.

Fishponds, Angling and Activities

If angling is part of your travel plans, a fishing licence is a separate item to arrange: the Ľudovítová municipal office issues fishing licences immediately upon verbal request. Fees and administrative procedures may change; check them directly with the municipal office in advance.

The short cycle route 5114 runs from Podhorany via Mechenice and ends in Ľudovítová after 3.5 kilometres. As route conditions can change, check them before setting out. The village also has a multi-purpose sports court with artificial turf, fencing and barriers for ball games, as well as a children’s playground. Both facilities are used for activities by residents and visitors.

Chapel and Village History

The chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua was built in 1773 in the Baroque style. Its rectangular floor plan, semicircular apse and roof turret define its architecture. On 13 June, the feast day of Saint Anthony, solemn services and the local church feast are held in Ľudovítová. Thus, the chapel’s dedication and a local tradition share the same date. A roof turret is a small tower on a roof.

The manor house dates from the 18th century. It first belonged to the Nyárki family, and later, until 1950, to the Ghylányi family. A park of just under two hectares, with trees from Europe and overseas, extended around the manor house; some trees were later removed. The park adds a glimpse of the historic design of the grounds to the story of ownership.

Memorial Sites and Archaeological Traces

At Torokmezo (Turecké pole), on the boundary between Ľudovítová and Výčapy-Opatovce, a Turkish Cross stands as a memorial to the defeat of the Turks. In Telkek, the archaeological site lies on a rise in the terrain 250 metres south of the cemetery chapel. Excavations in Telkek uncovered several pottery sherds from the Neolithic and Eneolithic periods of the Maďarovce culture. Alongside the history of buildings and ownership, archaeological finds and local remembrance are also in focus.

The time periods differ: the finds in Telkek are assigned to the Neolithic and Eneolithic periods, the chapel dates to 1773, and the manor house to the 18th century. For the manor house, the documented succession of owners extends to 1950. This comparison places the historical topics in context without combining them into a single story.
