Two distinct ways to explore Lúcnica Nad Zitavou stand out: a short walk along the Žitava and building history dating back to the mid-18th century. The Vajkovská stará Žitava educational trail offers a clearly defined timeframe; the chapel, manor house, mill and church provide a different perspective on the town. When planning, you can first decide whether to focus on the walking route or the historic buildings.

An educational trail along the Žitava

The Vajkovská stará Žitava educational trail is 1 km long, has no elevation gain and features four stops; it takes about 30 minutes to walk. The self-guided trail is linear, can be walked in either direction and is accessible year-round. It starts behind the Vajka nad Žitavou manor house and follows the Žitava upstream to Horné lúky. This gives you a short route that you can walk independently, with a clear time estimate: about half an hour.

Building history from the Baroque period to later alterations

The Panny Márie Šaštínskej Chapel dates from 1733. The Vajka nad Žitavou manor house is a single-storey Late Baroque building from the mid-18th century, with a U-shaped floor plan. In the 18th century, an extensive park surrounded the manor house. The Ferencyho mlyn pri kaštieli is a mill building that was originally Baroque and probably dates from the mid-18th century. During its reconstruction in 2010, significant features were preserved.

The Church of sv. Jána Nepomuckého is also Late Baroque and dates from the mid-18th century. Its later building history can be traced through specific changes: side aisles were added in 1911, and the church was modified in the 1950s. This places early building phases alongside later interventions, without reducing the history to a single date.

The spring and finding your way around

A spring emerges on a gentle slope at Vajkovská Studnička. The site has a stone well, a chapel, planted green spaces, an ornamental pond, benches, a fire pit and an information board. A religious travel publication from 2018 described Vajkovská studnička in Lúčnica nad Žitavou as a “lost” pilgrimage site.

Vajkovská Studnička is accessible at the beginning of Vajky nad Žitavou, in the Lúčnica district. From the direction of Dyčka, the route crosses the railway line and follows the stream to the chapels and the spring. As local conditions may change, check the current trail conditions before your visit. Together, these make for two very different points of interest: a short route with a clear time estimate, and a place where the spring, chapels and traditional designation as a pilgrimage site come together.
