Hruboňovo offers a range of points of interest: the Perkovský potok stream, which flows through the village, historic memorial sites, and traditional events. The Hruboňovo reservoir is in the northern part of Výčapky and is a place for a short break. Visitors planning a stay can focus on water, cultural history, or local customs.

Getting There by Bus and Train

Bus services connect Hruboňovo; there is no railway station in the village. The nearest station is in Zbehy, about 12 km away. Zbehy is therefore the relevant station for arriving by train, while bus services connect Hruboňovo. If you are planning to travel by train and bus, check suitable connections and departure times for your travel date. The distance of about 12 km indicates how far away the station is, not how long the onward journey takes.

Reservoir and Waterways

The reservoir can only be accessed from the village. There is no path alongside the water. So do not plan to include a waterside path as part of a walk around the lake. The reservoir is an appealing place for a short break; a walk directly by the water is a separate matter. The Perkovský potok flows through Hruboňovo, providing a different connection with water: here, a stream in the village contrasts with the reservoir in Výčapky.

Playground and Chapel in Výčapky

The inclusive, multigenerational playground project “Ihrisko pre každé dieťa” is located in Výčapky. It is designed for children with and without disabilities and comprises eleven play elements. Those interested in inclusively designed play facilities will find a clearly defined project here, with a specified scope.

Also in Výčapky, the Chapel of Our Lady of Seven Sorrows stands on the main road. It is about 200 years old, preserved, and well maintained. Inside is a sculpture of the Virgin Mary holding the dead Christ in her arms. Its age, condition, and subject give this religious building both historical and artistic significance.

Historical Traces and Buildings

The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk is a prominent cultural monument. It is surrounded by a triangular metal fence made around 1791. Among the surviving foundations of the Chapel of Saint Michael the Archangel are crypts containing the coffins of local landed gentry. Such details offer a glimpse into different forms of commemoration and burial.

The two-storey Baroque-Classical manor house Kaštieľ Výčapky is also part of the architectural history. It is dated to the mid-18th century, though the late 17th century is also cited in some accounts. Another historical connection leads to Oponice: parts of and the engine from an American Mustang fighter aircraft that crashed in Hruboňovo in 1944 are on display at the Apponyi Hunting Lodge Museum. The crash site and its present-day place of exhibition are therefore in different villages.

Traditional Events

Traditional events in Hruboňovo include a Shrovetide gathering to symbolically bury the double bass and an exhibition of fruit and vegetables. The gathering draws on a symbolic Shrovetide custom, while the exhibition focuses on fruit and vegetables. If you are planning to travel specifically for one of these events, check the dates in advance.
