Alekšince brings together a long archaeological history, church art, cultural events and a landscape strongly shaped by agriculture. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing between these themes: you can explore some through the history of the village, while visits to Slovanský Dvor Slavica and event dates require separate planning.
Landscape and early history
Intensive agriculture has shaped Alekšince: flat, deforested ridges alternate with broad valleys and hollows, and the hilly terrain is gently contoured. The Andač stream flows through the centre, where it joins the Radošinka River. These landscape features and the watercourse offer a different way to experience the village from its historic buildings and cultural attractions.
Archaeological finds point to settlement in the area dating back to the Early Stone Age. These include a blade scraper made of Limnoquartzite more than 20,000 years ago. The find makes the time gap between the early settlement and the buildings visible today especially tangible, without requiring a consecutive tour.
Church and local traditions
The Church of St. Anne (Kostol sv. Anny) was built as a Classicist chapel in 1802. A side nave was added in 1939, followed by a vestibule in 1959. The main altar also dates from 1802 and includes a Calvary group. The church is considered well preserved and continues to serve its religious purpose; check its condition before visiting. A statue of St. John of Nepomuk from the second half of the 18th century is another historic feature of Alekšince.
Christian traditions include the Budičkový procession, which passes through a different part of the village each time. Alongside the buildings and works of art that shape the village permanently, this is a tradition whose route changes from one part of the municipality to another.
Culture at Slovanský Dvor Slavica
Slovanský Dvor Slavica has the character of a museum set up as a traditional farmstead and is dedicated to showcasing folk culture. At VIEROSLAVÍN, you can see a wooden replica of the Zbruch Idol. Also on display are ceramic reliefs of Slavic deities—LADA, ŽIVA, MAKOŠ, VELES, PERÚN and SVAROG—created by local artist Juliana Hadvigová.
The Slovanský Dvor Slavica programme includes exhibitions, concerts and art competitions, as well as commemorative days and celebrations of traditional festivals. Educational conferences and seminars are also held there. You can arrange a visit by phone on 0915 109 205; check the contact details before making plans. The events are accessible to people with disabilities and wheelchair users, and the grounds are step-free. Pribinova Dvorana has a universal access ramp. As practical arrangements may change, it is advisable to check before visiting.
Events and practical planning
The second edition of “VYKROJ SA NA DVOR” took place on 6 June 2026 at Slovanský Dvor Slavica. The programme at the time included a treasure hunt for children based on Slavic history and cultural heritage. Check dates separately for future editions. “Alekšinský kotlík” is also a recurring goulash-cooking competition: in 2025, the municipality announced its tenth edition. At that event, visitors who were not taking part in the competition could sample goulash made by local hunters. This does not indicate a current date; check upcoming event dates separately.
Various cultural and sporting events take place every year at the cynological complex, including dog sports and goulash-cooking competitions. The complex is in a quiet setting and has a covered fire pit with seating for 60, toilets with a shower, a kitchen, a terrace and a dance floor. The fishponds in Alekšince are used for recreation and fishing. They are privately owned; check access locally.
The Nitra–Hlohovec railway line runs through Alekšince and was opened in 1898. If you are considering travelling by train, check the current timetable separately. This allows you to distinguish historical transport information from practical travel planning.
