Rejdová combines cultural heritage with outdoor activities: these include a 17th-century church, living folk crafts, two trails with different points of reference and a seasonal ski area. Stolica is also in Rejdová; at 1,477 metres, it is the highest peak in the Slovak Ore Mountains.
Church, Museum and Living Crafts
The national cultural monument “Evanjelický kostol Sv. Michala Archanjela” dates from the 17th century. The altar ensemble includes the painting “The Last Supper”; the ensemble was created around 1750 in a local sculpture and woodcarving workshop in the Gemer region. These details connect the church with the region’s artistic and craft traditions.
The Múzeum tradičnej ľudovej kultúry is housed in a traditional wooden folk dwelling on the village square. If you would like to visit the museum inside, check visiting arrangements in advance. Folk crafts still practised in Rejdová include carpet weaving, bobbin lace-making, shingle-making and sewing fur garments. The examples therefore range from textile work to the production of building materials and clothing.
Folk Art and Festival
The Hôra folklore group was founded in 1953. At various events, it focuses on presenting and preserving traditional folk crafts. The Gemerský folklorný festival in Rejdová traditionally takes place in the second half of August; the specific dates vary from one edition to another.
The 2022 edition’s programme included open courtyards, demonstrations of folk crafts and presentations of artisans’ work. If you plan to attend a later festival, check the dates; the specific programme may vary from one edition to another. This helps distinguish the recurring time of year from the individual event dates and activities.
Two Trails, Different Points of Reference
The discovery trail starts at the car park behind the local amphitheatre; a blue and a red route option are signposted. The route is 3 km long and accessible to pedestrians and cycling tourists. It also features an oversized swing with a view of the village. If conditions change, follow the local signage.
The Náučný chodník has seven information boards in the built-up area and the surrounding countryside. It is about 3.5 km long and can be walked in approximately 1.5 hours. The two trails offer different points of reference for planning: for the Náučný chodník, the length and approximate walking time are helpful; for the discovery trail, the marked route options and accessibility for pedestrians and cycling tourists provide guidance.
Stolica and the Ski Area in Winter
The Rejdová ski area has three ski lifts for beginners and advanced skiers. Snow conditions and operations are seasonal. The area is in the Vŕšok part of the village, about a ten-minute walk from the village square; parking is available directly at the ski lift. Road and parking conditions can vary in winter, so check snow conditions and operations before setting out.
If you are looking for a hotel in Rejdová, first decide whether culture, the trails or the seasonal ski area will shape your stay.
