Čierna Lehota lies at the end of the Štítnica Valley; Stolica is 1,476 m high. A blue-marked hiking trail leads from the village to Stolica and Kohút (1,409 m), the two highest peaks in the Slovak Ore Mountains. This connection between the peaks gives the trip a clear hiking focus; the village also has its own points of interest for culture enthusiasts: a memorial to the Slovak National Uprising and an evangelical church with neoclassical features. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can first consider whether hiking or local history should shape your stay.

Valley, peaks and protected areas

Kohút complements the setting at the end of the valley: the 1,409 m peak dominates the valley in the background and marks the end of the municipality of Čierna Lehota and the entire valley. Carpathian stonecrop, a Carpathian endemic, grows on Kohút. This offers nature enthusiasts a specific botanical point of interest alongside the peaks. Wolves, brown bears and Eurasian lynxes are also regularly found in the Stolica Natura 2000 site.

Zone A of the Stolica protected area includes plots in the cadastral area of Čierna Lehota. The boundary of Zone A follows the boundary of the cadastral area as far as Kohút and continues to Stolica. Forests cover about 88 percent of the Muránska planina–Stolica protected area, which also includes the cadastral area of Čierna Lehota. Access restrictions apply in Zone A under the protected-area designation; check the current regulations and trail conditions before setting out on a hike.

Hiking: peak trails and longer routes

There are two different route options to consider when planning a hike. A blue-marked trail leads from Čierna Lehota to the peaks of Stolica and Kohút. Another marked Stolica route runs from Muránska Huta via Stolica and the Pomník SNP monument to Čierna Lehota, then continues to Slavošovce. It follows well-marked hiking trails and makes Čierna Lehota a stage on a route connecting several places. By contrast, the blue trail focuses on the two highest peaks as destinations.

A trail to the Pomník SNP monument also leads to Čierna Lehota and joins a blue-marked hiking trail there, before the edge of the village. Trail conditions and markings may change; check them before setting out. This lets you plan your hike around your preferred route without conflating the different trails.

Remembrance and church architecture

The Pomník SNP Čierna Lehota monument stands above the village and commemorates the victims of the Slovak National Uprising. The municipality’s wartime heritage also includes a memorial room dedicated to the uprising. Both relate to the same historical subject, but each offers a different form of remembrance.

The evangelical church was built in 1773–1774 as a Tolerance church in the neoclassical style. Its wooden Protestant gallery extends along three sides of the nave. The neoclassical altar is another distinct historical reference point: it dates from the mid-19th century and features a painting of Christ blessing. Together, the construction date, gallery and altar offer specific points of reference for exploring the village’s cultural history.

A possible reason to time your trip

If you would like to plan your stay around a community event, you could consider the ascent of Stolica. The 2025–2030 municipal development plan lists it as an annual cultural and social event. If the ascent is important to your trip, check the exact date in advance. This will help you plan your search for a holiday apartment around dates that actually work for you.
