Discover Chorvátsky Grob through its sacred local history, Croatian traditions, and the natural setting of the Šúr National Nature Reserve. The reserve extends into the cadastral area of the municipality. Local highlights range from a 16th-century church to a nature trail with a set length and number of stations.

Churches, Exhibits, and Croatian History

The Roman Catholic Church of Christ the King was built in 1589 during the reconstruction of an older late Gothic religious building. Inside, it preserves a monstrance from the early 16th century and a statue of the Virgin Mary from the second half of the 18th century. The monstrance predates the reconstruction, while the statue of the Virgin Mary belongs to a considerably later period: the church brings together different eras in its architectural and decorative history. The Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity is also dated; it was built in 1880.

The Chorvátska izba contains historical and ethnographic exhibits, as well as examples of local craftsmanship and traditions. Its connection with Croatian settlers dates back to the mid-16th century, when the estate of Svätý Jur settled Croatian colonists in Chorvátsky Grob. A winter bridal outfit from Chorvátsky Grob dates from the early 20th century. Its components include a blue wool skirt, a green bodice, and a long mentieka. More recent cultural history is also tangible: the local folk ensemble Chorvatanka celebrated its 35th anniversary in 2024.

Šúr Nature Reserve and Nature Trail

Šúr National Nature Reserve covers 991 ha. It protects a wetland with rare flora and fauna, as well as the remains of an original swampy alder forest with a peat bog. Part of the reserve extends into the cadastral area of Chorvátsky Grob.

For route planning, the “Prírodné klenoty Šúru” nature trail has specific details: it is 4.1 km long, has six stations, runs mostly through Panónsky háj, and ends on a road in Chorvátsky Grob, in the Čierna Voda district. Its length and number of stations are two different points of reference when considering a nature route for your trip. The endpoint is located specifically in this district.

Horse Riding and Events

The Čierna Voda equestrian centre offers individual riding lessons with an instructor for children and adults, as well as rides in the Šúr protected area. Availability may vary; check in advance whether your preferred activity is running on your chosen date. The equestrian centre is accessible by car and by public transport on bus route 630. Check the timetable before travelling.

Event dates offer a different focus from the architectural and landscape features that are there year-round. The celebration of Saint Urban was revived in 2014; its tenth edition took place in 2024. The celebration’s programme includes a tasting and a presentation of local wines by VÍNO HUGO. The programme for the Grobský Runfest 2026 lists 5 km and 12 km runs, children’s races, a food zone, and a children’s zone. If you would like to plan your stay around a festival, check the specific event date against your travel dates.

Choose Your Stay Based on Your Reason for Travelling

When choosing a hotel in Chorvátsky Grob, you can weigh three different reasons for travelling: architectural and cultural history, a nature route with a specified length, or an event programme tied to specific dates. The differences are concrete: historic sites point to different eras, the nature trail has a set distance, and events take place on specific dates.
