Ľuboriečka combines a valley setting on the eastern edge of the Ipeľ Basin with vernacular architecture and traces of local history. Folk houses and farm buildings, bell towers with distinct designs, memorial sites and Pecna Cave are key points of interest. When choosing a destination, these themes offer different ways to explore vernacular architecture, the history of remembrance or natural history.

Landscape and Location

Ľuboriečka lies in the valley of the Ľuboreč stream on the eastern edge of the Ipeľ Basin. The higher eastern part is covered with oak and hornbeam woodland. The cadastral area also contains a mineral spring. The valley, wooded uplands and spring are distinct landscape features that complement one another.

Vernacular Architecture and Bell Towers

Ľuboriečka has preserved folk houses and farm buildings from the 19th and early 20th centuries. A folk house in Ľuboriečka features period furnishings, clothing and work tools. A brick bell tower dating from around 1800 stands in the village centre. Its square floor plan and semicircular sound openings define the structure’s form; the bell’s sound carries outside through these openings. The tower is in good condition and still serves its purpose. If you are planning a visit, check its condition again in advance.

There is also a small wooden bell tower in the cemetery, with a bell dating from 1845. The two towers differ in their materials and locations. Their dates also refer to different things: around 1800 indicates when the brick tower was built, while 1845 is the year of the cemetery tower’s bell.

Memorial Sites and Historical Traces

A memorial plaque in Ľuboriečka commemorates those who fell in 1945. The area around Ľuboriečka contains the remains of a wooden manor house, with family crypts beneath it. The remains of a sand pit are associated with a site where prehistoric inhabitants and marine animals, including sharks, were found. Mount Vysoká is designated as a prehistoric settlement and archaeological site.

The settlement of Osušie also has religious buildings. The Church of Our Lady of the Eucharist, built in 1994, stands there; Osušie also has a chapel. The local history thus encompasses memorial sites and archaeological connections, as well as buildings used for various religious and everyday purposes.

Pecna Cave

The entrance to Pecna Cave lies at an elevation of about 265 m on a wooded slope of the hill of the same name, on the eastern edge of Ľuboriečka. The hill is sometimes also called Pekna. The cave is 6.1 m long; its first written mention dates from 1826. It probably formed as the trunk of a fossilized tree weathered out of coarse andesite conglomerates. The figures refer to different things: about 265 m is the elevation of the entrance, 6.1 m is the cave’s length, and 1826 is the year of its first written mention.
