Several clearly defined themes come together in Kleňany: the village museum, the Church of All Saints and the Chapel of St. Urban, as well as a memorial to those who fell in two world wars and geological features. The Hrušovská Route also passes through the village. This profile therefore combines local history and culture with a specific connection to the route.

Village Museum, Statue Group and Christmas Tradition

The Kleňany Village Museum was founded in 2005 and has a rich collection of ethnographic material. That same year, a statue group of Saint Anne and the young Virgin Mary was created in the village square. A wooden nativity scene is set up in the museum courtyard every year. The year 2005 links the museum’s founding with the statue group, while the nativity scene adds a Christmas touch with its annual return.

Baroque and Rococo in Sacred Art

The Church of All Saints in Kleňany is a Baroque church dating from the late 17th century and was remodeled in 1789. Inside is a wooden statue of the Madonna in the Rococo style, dating from the second half of the 18th century. Near the choir are Baroque wooden statues of the four Evangelists. The furnishings make the stylistic differences tangible: Baroque defines the church building and the Evangelists, while the Madonna is described as a Rococo work.

The restored Chapel of St. Urban is also part of Kleňany’s sacred heritage. It stands above Kleňany at the edge of the vineyards and is relatively large, with a single room. A painting of the patron saint of viticulture and winemaking hangs at its center. Both the saint’s name and the central painting refer to viticulture and winemaking.

Places of Remembrance and Earth History

A memorial erected in 1993 in the Kleňany cemetery commemorates those who fell in the First and Second World Wars. Unlike the religious buildings, the focus here is on remembrance of both wars.

In the cellars dug into the ground in the Mikó area, fossilized remains of marine shells and snails can be seen. Andesite formations are also found in the northern part of the cadastral area of Kleňany. These geological features add a distinct perspective on Earth’s history to the cultural themes.

Putting the Hrušovská Route in Context

The Hrušovská Route passes through Kleňany on its way between Sečianky and Ipeľské Úľany. From Kleňany, the route continues for another 3.2 km to Ipeľské Úľany; this distance refers to that section. A Kleňany viewpoint is listed as one of the viewpoints along the Hrušovská Route. Passing through the village places it on the route, while the 3.2 km indicates the continuation to Ipeľské Úľany.

If you are looking for a holiday apartment, consider Kleňany in light of your travel plans: will your stay focus mainly on the historical and cultural details, or would you also like to include the section of the Hrušovská Route to Ipeľské Úľany? The themes mentioned can help you choose your focus between local history and route planning.
