Revúcka Lehota lies in the southeastern part of the Slovak Ore Mountains, on the left side of the Muránska Valley. Visitors considering a stay can choose from different points of interest: the Evangelical Church with its Rococo furnishings, local history, or the Miková Reservoir.
Landscape and Surroundings
Most of the cadastral area of Revúcka Lehota lies on a terraced plateau. To the north, this gives way to narrow strips of hilly terrain and lower mountains. The surrounding forests consist mainly of beech, with birch, oak, and hornbeam also present. These details paint a more precise picture of the landscape than a general description as a mountain settlement: the area described includes the plateau, the northern transition, and a variety of deciduous tree species.
Miková Reservoir: Recreation and Fishing
Miková Reservoir, which is used for recreation and fishing, lies within the cadastral area of Revúcka Lehota. For anglers, the boundaries are important: the upper section of the reservoir, by the inlet, is designated as a CHRO; fishing is prohibited there year-round. If you plan to visit the reservoir, take this restriction for the designated inlet area into account.
Evangelical Church and Local History
The municipal heritage list, updated in 2024, identifies the Evangelical Church as the only cultural monument in Revúcka Lehota. It was completed and consecrated in 1793. Its furnishings include a Rococo altar with a pulpit dating from the second half of the 18th century. This places two different dates in context: the church’s completion and consecration in 1793, and the earlier dating of the altar and pulpit. Revúcka Lehota is also home to a memorial to the victims of the Second World War.
The settlement was established around the 14th century under Wallachian law. The community’s historical way of life included livestock farming, the production of linen and cloth, charcoal burning, and the distillation of homemade fruit brandy. These activities add economic and craft aspects to the architectural history. The local history thus encompasses both the settlement’s development and work connected with agriculture and traditional production.
Traditions and Dated Events
The table tennis tournament has a long tradition in Revúcka Lehota: the 2023 event was the 28th edition, and another traditional tournament was held in 2024. On May 13, 2023, Revúcka Lehota commemorated the 78th anniversary of the end of the Second World War with a traditional bonfire at Dolinka.
Children’s Day and Sports Day took place on July 1, 2023, at the local soccer field. Children enjoyed games and competitions; the program for adults included volleyball, shots on goal, rolling-pin throwing, and tug-of-war. The Martinská zábava is considered a longstanding tradition in Revúcka Lehota. At the Martinská zábava held on November 11, 2023, the band Relax from Vlachovo performed; the program also included two dinners and a raffle. These specific dates offer a glimpse of a range of local occasions, from sports and games to a traditional evening celebration.
