Čamovce lies in the eastern part of the Cerová vrchovina, in the valley of the Čamovský potok. Its cadastral area consists of sandstones and young basalt scoria and is covered with oak, beech, and black locust forests. The Cerová vrchovina Protected Landscape Area also extends into this area. If you want to plan your trip around specific themes, you can explore the landscape and geology as well as the village’s architectural history.

Geology and Landscape

The geological description is especially specific at the Čamovský kameňolom quarry, which exposes the full thickness of a basalt flow. River gravels of the Belina beds occur in the immediate subsurface, with inclined-bedded sandstones of the Jalovské beds beneath them. While the description of the cadastral area refers to sandstones and young basalt scoria, the quarry reveals a specific basalt flow and the layers beneath it. It is considered the most representative exposure of a lava flow in the Cerová vrchovina. The area also includes Cerová vrchovina – lesné biotopy (SKUEV0357), a site that encompasses the cadastral area of Čamovce. Alongside the general landscape description, there is therefore a specific geological exposure and a named sequence of rock layers.

Cycling Route and Hiking Trail

A cycling route runs through Čamovce and continues to Šurice, passing through the Cerová vrchovina Protected Landscape Area. This identifies both a destination and the route’s connection to the protected landscape. On the Fiľakovo–Belina–Hajnáčka hiking route, a mown meadow in the valley of the Čamovský potok is marked as a waypoint. The information offers different kinds of guidance: the cycling route description covers its course and continuation to Šurice, while the hiking route description identifies a specific waypoint. When choosing, you can consider which description better suits your interest in the route or the landscape.

Architectural History and Older Traces

The oldest archaeological finds in Čamovce date from the Bronze Age. Another glimpse into the past comes from its Neoclassical buildings. The Roman Catholic Church of Kostol sv. Anjelov strážcov is a single-nave building dating from 1846. It was remodelled in 1910 and 1946; inside, it has a flat ceiling with a cove. The Neoclassical manor house dates from the first half of the 19th century. It has one storey and a centrally positioned columned portico. The architectural forms are easy to distinguish: the church is notable for its single-nave plan and ceiling detail, while the manor house is distinguished by its single-storey form and central portico. These architectural features complement the dating of the oldest finds.

Getting There by Train and Bus

Čamovce has a bus stop and a railway line that runs through the village. Passenger trains run from Čamovce to Lučenec and Fiľakovo. These destinations provide specific guidance for rail travel. Check the current timetable before departure, as transport services may change. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can plan your trip around the things you are most interested in seeing locally: the geological landscape, architectural history, or the routes mentioned above.
