Lišov combines a collection of more than 400 masks with ethnographic crafts, unusual architectural forms and a distinctive wine-growing landscape. There is also a 24 km cycling route that goes beyond Lišov to the Tesárska roklina and back to Dudince. This gives you different points of interest to consider when planning your trip: explore the culture through specific buildings and collections, while winegrowing and cycling offer their own highlights.

Masks, Crafts and Architectural History

The Galéria masiek displays more than 400 masks from around the world. The collection includes African, Asian, modern European, American and local masks. It therefore ranges from regional works to masks from different parts of the world. If you are particularly interested in ethnographic subjects, the Lišovská izba has a small ethnographic museum. There, you can not only view traditional crafts and handiwork but also try them out for yourself.

The Keltské obydlie is another example of traditional skills. The wooden building was constructed without a single nail; its walls are woven with hazel rods and plastered with clay. Exchange students from England, Romania and Germany built it during a stay in Lišov. The house can be visited as an example of traditional skills and the use of natural materials. Here, the focus is on construction methods and craftsmanship, not on an extensive collection.

The stone dwellings also illustrate the variety of local architectural forms: they include small rooms and large halls carved into recesses and caves in sandstone and tuff. They probably date from the time of the Turkish invasions and served as a refuge for local residents. The Evangelical church adds to this historical picture. It is believed to have been built in 1590; its present-day organ dates from 1922.

Wine Country and Planning Your Visit

The Vínne chyžky in Lišov include around 300 wine-growing cottages and hand-hewn cellars carved directly into volcanic tuff. The cellars bring the materials and labour behind the wine-growing landscape to life: here, winegrowing is reflected not only in the subject matter but also in the surrounding architecture. The Koštovka, a competition for the best Lišov wine, is a special annual event. It has been held every spring since 1994. If you would like to plan your visit around it, check the specific event dates locally.

If you are planning to visit an exhibition at Stodola Fera Liptáka, you will need to make different arrangements: visits are possible by appointment. The house preserves traditional architecture and hosts exhibitions. Lišov’s Regional Information Point is located in a renovated house dating from 1887 and serves as an information centre and café. Check locally whether the café is currently open.

Discover Lišov by Bike

The Lišovská cycling route is 24 km long and runs from Dudince to the Tesárska roklina, through Lišov and back to Dudince. The meanders of the Lišovský potok can be seen along the route. This offers a well-defined cycling option alongside the sights in the village: the route connects several named places in a circuit, while the Galéria masiek, Lišovská izba and historic architectural forms each offer their own cultural focus. The Koštovka, visits to Stodola Fera Liptáka by appointment and café availability are all aspects of your visit that depend on local dates or arrangements.
