Kopaonik combines a ski centre with dense coniferous forests, waterways and destinations along hiking trails. This makes choosing when to travel a practical planning decision: the ski centre focuses on alpine and Nordic skiing; in summer, the national park organises guided hikes to destinations on the mountain. Natural and cultural sites offer additional points of interest. If you choose Kopaonik as your accommodation destination, you can first decide which activities will shape your trip, then coordinate your travel arrangements with your specific accommodation.

Forests and Waterfalls

Kopaonik was declared a national park because of its exceptional natural values. Dense coniferous forests define the landscape. Along the Samokovska Reka, Kopaonik’s largest waterway, small waterfalls and cascades form. Jelovarnik offers a different scale: this multi-tiered waterfall lies on the Zaplaninska Reka and has a total height of 80 metres. The differences lie in their form and scale: small cascades on one river, and a multi-tiered waterfall with a total height of 80 metres on the other.

Skiing and Seasonal Activities

The Kopaonik ski centre has more than 64 kilometres of slopes and ski routes for alpine and Nordic skiing. Both disciplines are therefore part of what it offers. One special feature is slope 3a: it follows the Krst lift; its artificial surface is about 900 metres long and allows skiing all year round. Check the current operating schedule before travelling.

Kopaonik’s Sports Valley has a bike park where you can practise new tricks. A zipline offers a ride over the mountain. As these facilities are seasonal, check their current availability before your trip.

Hiking Trails and Historic Sites

In summer, the national park organises guided hikes to destinations on the mountain; check the current summer programme before travelling. Kopaonik’s hiking trails are classified as easy, moderate and difficult. The hike on the Nebeske Stolice trail takes 4 to 5 hours and covers a total elevation gain of 414 metres. Its duration and elevation gain provide concrete figures for planning your day.

Nebeske Stolice was the site of a Church of Saint Procopius dating from the 5th to 6th century and a late-antique structure dating from the 3rd to 4th century. Metođe lies on the eastern slopes of Kopaonik National Park and is part of a designated hiking trail. The hiking area therefore offers historical and archaeological interest in addition to natural attractions.

Planning Your Journey and Accommodation

Kopaonik National Park can be reached via three access roads: through Jošanička Banja, Raška or Brzeće. Buses arrive at and depart from the car park below the Konaci complex. The roads and the bus arrival point provide different reference points for planning your journey.

When looking for a hotel in Kopaonik, it helps to compare the specific accommodation address with your travel plans. First consider whether the ski centre, hiking trails or natural landscape will be the main focus of your trip; then include the most suitable route and the bus arrival point in your plans.
