In Mós, you can discover hiking trails, waterways and community heritage from a variety of perspectives. Each route has its own focus: one leads to a named destination, one is a circular route, and another passes a stream and includes a former mill as a stop. Churches and historic buildings add local history to the landscape. When planning, you can decide whether to focus on a particular type of route, a specific place or historic buildings.
Hiking trails with distinct focuses
The PR2 route leads to Cruzeiro das Almas in the Freguesia de Mós and runs close to the Fonte de Mergulho de Mós. It also lists the Baroque Igreja Paroquial de Mós as a possible place to visit. This brings together a clear route destination, a fountain close to the trail and a possible church visit as different points of interest. If you plan to visit the church, check access in advance.
The Trilho da Ribeira is a short circular hiking trail with high landscape, cultural and ecological value. The Percurso Interpretativo de Mós passes by the Ribeira do Penacal; one of its stops is the former communal mill. It is no longer in operation. The trails therefore differ both in their format and in their named points of interest: the circular nature of the Trilho is highlighted, while the interpretive trail focuses on the stream and the stop at the mill.
The waterways are also easy to distinguish: gallery forests grow along the Ribeira de Mós, while the Percurso Interpretativo passes by the Penacal. The gallery forests are therefore associated with a different landscape feature from the stream that marks the interpretive trail's route.
Churches and community heritage
The Igreja de São Pedro brings together two historical points in time. In 1258, the church belonged to the Mosteiro do Castro de Avelãs; in the mid-18th century, it was rebuilt. These dates point to different chapters in its history: an earlier affiliation and a later building phase. Separate from this is the Baroque Igreja Paroquial de Mós, listed as a possible place to visit on the PR2. The Capela de São Tiago, another specifically located church building, stands on the northern edge of Mós.
The historic buildings also include the Forja Comunitária, one of Mós's preserved or restored historic buildings. The communal mill is also part of the well-preserved cultural heritage. As a stop on the Percurso Interpretativo, it is linked to the route; at the same time, it is no longer in operation. Those interested in the community history of the area will find a different perspective here than at the churches: the forge and the mill complement the religious buildings with other forms of local heritage.
Choose a route to suit your interests
Three distinct focuses can help you choose: the PR2 leads to a clearly named destination and passes close to a spring; the Trilho da Ribeira offers a circular route associated with landscape, cultural and ecological value; the Percurso Interpretativo follows the Penacal and includes the former mill as a stop. This lets you distinguish the routes by destination, format or cultural and historical connection. The gallery forests along the Ribeira de Mós add another landscape feature to the picture, without confusing them with the stream on the interpretive trail.
