For a trip to Cerca, time-limited activities at Agroturismo Xistos can be distinguished from landscape trails and cultural topics. The offerings address different planning questions: How much time would you like to set aside for an activity, and are you more interested in a specific landscape spot, a trail through the Montado or local history? The following places offer practical points of reference.
Workshops and set time slots
Agroturismo Xistos is located on Herdade Monte da Ponte, on Estrada Nacional 122 at kilometre 18 in Cerca, Portugal. Two workshops there, “Xistos à mesa” and “Nós e as abelhas”, each last an hour and a half and are offered for up to twelve people.
“Ser pastor por um dia” is a three-hour event for up to twelve people. This means there are two shorter offerings alongside one longer activity. The duration details help you plan a block of time for your stay; the group size also provides a specific indication of the format. Dates and times may change, so check the latest schedule when planning a visit.
Landscape and trail waypoints
The PR4 BJA circular trail, “Da Planície à Ribeira de Terges”, lies entirely within the Castro Verde Special Protection Area and leads to Pego da Moira Linda, a scenic stopping point overlooking the waters of the Ribeira de Terges. Here, the protected area and a named landscape spot come together.
The PR3 BJA circular trail, “Pelos Montes do Cantinho da Ribeira”, passes through cork oak Montado to the Ribeira de Terges. In Azinhalinho, it passes an information board about the history of a local tragedy. The PR3 thus combines a landscape shaped by cork oaks with a historical reference, while the Special Protection Area and Pego da Moira Linda are the defining points of reference for the PR4. The two descriptions therefore emphasise different things, even though both mention the Ribeira de Terges.
Water conditions on the PR3 can vary seasonally; access and trail conditions may also change. Before visiting, check the latest route conditions and information about the protected area.
Cultural heritage and a toy collection in Trindade
In the village of Trindade, the predominant rammed-earth construction is part of its cultural heritage. Rammed earth refers to a building method in which earth is compacted inside formwork. The term therefore makes a specific building tradition a starting point for exploring the village’s cultural heritage.
Another cultural point of interest is the PIÃO-Núcleo Museológico do Brinquedo da Aldeia de Trindade. When it opened on 2 June 2022, it presented Francisco Janeiro’s private toy collection. The collection includes spinning tops, wind-up toys, classic cars, dolls and other nostalgic toys. The variety of items gives the collection a broad scope: from toys that spin or wind up to vehicles and dolls. Together with the rammed-earth buildings, they offer two different insights into Trindade’s cultural heritage—through its building method on the one hand and a private collection on the other. If you are planning a museum visit, check the current visiting arrangements in advance.
