Lake, forest and local history

Oświno’s varied landscape of lake and forest gives the village tourist appeal and recreational value. It is also home to a church dating from the late 19th century and the park of a former manor house. There are two distinct considerations when choosing a stay: nature and time by the water on the one hand, and historic buildings and landscape features on the other. If you are considering Oświno as a destination, you can decide whether the lake and forest or the village’s history is the deciding factor.

Church and manor house park

The church in Oświno was built around 1880 on a rectangular plan, using fieldstone and brick. The rectangular plan describes its shape, while fieldstone and brick identify the two materials used in its construction. Its approximate construction date places it in context alongside the manor house park, which was laid out at the beginning of the 19th century. The church offers more than a date for understanding local history: its plan, materials and date of construction together give a concrete picture of the building.

The former manor house park was laid out at the beginning of the 19th century and originally covered 4 ha. It is home to surviving old trees of Abies concolor, Fagus sylvatica ‘Atropurpureum’, Platanus x acerifolia, Taxus baccata and Quercus robur. The species range from fir and beech to plane, yew and oak. Alongside the historic manor house grounds, the old trees are another distinct natural feature of the village.

Cemetery features in the village

The churchyard in Oświno forms a quadrilateral of about 0.2 ha, with the church at its centre. A second cemetery was established on the southern edge of the village in the first half of the 19th century and covers about 0.3 ha. Based on the approximate area figures, this second cemetery is slightly larger than the churchyard. The two sites also differ in the features that define them: the churchyard is characterised by its shape and central church, while the second cemetery is distinguished by its date of establishment and location on the southern edge of the village.

According to a municipal regulation published in July 2023, the municipal cemetery in Oświno is open to visitors around the clock from 1 January to 31 December. Check the current regulation before your visit.

Lake Woświn and the bathing shore

Municipal tourism information dated 10 July 2017 describes a small, prepared beach on the Oświno side of the shore of Lake Woświn. The gently sloping shelf makes swimming possible there. This makes the shore a specific point of interest for trips focused on the lake and offers a different side of Oświno from its local and architectural history. Check local conditions before your visit, as water and bathing conditions can change.
