Pyrzycki County encompasses the area around Lake Miedwie, the Płonia and Lake Płoń, as well as the Barlinek Lake District between Tetyń and Jesionowo. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Pyrzyce, you can also include the diversity of the wider travel region in your plans: regional highlights range from lakes and gardens to religious architecture and early history.

Lake Landscapes and Windsurfing Conditions

At 36.8 km², Lake Miedwie is Poland’s fifth-largest lake. In some places, shallow-water areas several dozen metres wide can be found along its shore. Sustained winds create favourable conditions for windsurfing there. The lake’s size, shoreline and winds shape its character.

The lake complex near Lipiany comprises the ribbon lakes Chłop, Będzin and Wądół. Its shoreline is highly irregular, with numerous peninsulas and islands. The lakes also feature narrow passages, shallow-water areas and underwater ridges; at the same time, they are relatively deep and have clear water that is popular with anglers. While the shallow-water zones and wind stand out at Lake Miedwie, at Lipiany it is above all the varied shorelines and clear water that characterise the lakes.

Gardens and Events

Ogrody Przelewice covers more than 30 hectares and is home to a collection of unusual trees and shrubs from different parts of the world. The Botanical Garden in Przelewice includes a Japanese garden, a collection of rhododendrons and azaleas, the Valley of the Five Springs and the Rose Avenue. The garden is therefore a destination in its own right for anyone wishing to include landscaped gardens and plant collections in their trip.

The garden’s opening hours vary by season: from 1 April to 21 September, it is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; from 22 September to 31 October, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and from 1 November to 31 March, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. In winter, the garden is closed on Mondays. Check the opening hours again before your visit.

At Noc Bajek, actors perform live fairy tales from around the world on several stages. Dates vary from one edition to the next. If you would like to include the event in your travel plans, check the dates for the relevant edition.

Religious Architecture and Early History

The parish church in Brzesko is a Marian shrine built from granite blocks in the 13th century. Its altar and pulpit date from the early 17th century. Architectural details also include a carved, polychrome-painted ceiling, with cone-shaped corbels hanging down from the centre of the vault.

In Karsko, in the municipality of Przelewice, there is a megalithic cemetery with two similar Kujavian-type megalithic tombs, known as “Zelki” or “giant tombs”. They were built in the later phases of the Neolithic, approximately between 3000 and 2200 BC.

Lipiany also has a long history: in the 9th century, a fortified Pomeranian settlement was established on a peninsula in Lake Wedyjskie, now called Wądół and Kościelne. It formed part of the defensive system of the Pyrzyczanie tribe and was its southern outpost. A later outer settlement formed the origins of the town of Lipiany. Archaeological remains and buildings from different periods thus stand side by side in the wider travel region.
