Barlinek combines cultural history with a variety of routes and activities by Jezioro Barlineckie. The lake lies within the city’s administrative boundaries. On its shore near Barlinek, you’ll find a large beach and bathing area, where you can also enjoy various water sports. Check the seasonal availability of these activities before your trip.

Lakeside, cycling route and viewpoint

The 3.5-kilometre cycling route from Barlinek to Krzynka follows the promenade along Jezioro Barlineckie and passes through Barlinecko-Gorzowski Landscape Park. It thus connects a stretch along the lakeshore with a route through the landscape park.

The route to the lakeside viewpoint offers a different perspective. It includes a rest area with information boards and views of Jezioro Barlineckie, its opposite shore and Barlinek. Various waterbirds can be spotted along the route, including mallards, tufted ducks, goldeneyes, Eurasian coots, mute swans, great crested grebes, black-headed gulls and cormorants. This route offers both scenic views and a chance to observe the lake’s birdlife.

Walking routes with different themes

The Barlinek Ceramic Trail, named after Romana Kaszczyc, is a walking route through the city. Along the way, you can see works by local ceramic artists as well as works by participants in the art plein airs organised by Barlinecki Ośrodek Kultury. The trail offers an artistic focus. By contrast, the Nordic walking centre has a network of 54 kilometres of marked paths across seven routes, with three levels of difficulty. The routes also cover the wider Łubianka area. Check trail conditions before setting out. The Ceramic Trail and Nordic walking centre therefore offer different options when choosing a stroll or a longer hike.

Museum and city history

Muzeum Regionalne w Barlinku is located in the so-called Dom Gutenberga, a former printing house at 17 Niepodległości Street. A biographical exhibition is devoted to world chess champion Emanuel Lasker and his family. Another exhibition presents tools and vessels from the Neolithic to the Iron Age. The ethnographic exhibition focuses on the everyday life of rural communities around the turn of the 20th century. The exhibits include household items, farming tools and workshop equipment. The themes thus range from Lasker’s biography and archaeological finds to work and daily life in a later era.

Beyond the museum, individual buildings and works of art also offer glimpses into Barlinek’s history. Of the former fortifications, which were 1,800 metres long in total, just over 400 metres remain today. Rynek Staromiejski is home to a fountain built in 1912, featuring a sculpture of a girl being attacked by a gander. The projecting bay window of the Chiński House incorporates a scale model, reduced several times, of the former Great Water Gate. Barlinek’s municipal bathhouse is still well preserved today.

The specific differences between the routes can help with your planning: the cycling route to Krzynka is a single 3.5-kilometre stretch, while the Nordic walking centre comprises a marked network of seven routes covering 54 kilometres in total.
