Koszalin offers a variety of ways to spend your stay: historical collections and buildings, a city walk, hiking and cycling routes, and recreational activities by the water. To plan your trip, you can first decide whether you would prefer to focus on the city’s history, a route or Wodna Dolina. The options described differ not only in theme but also in their specific format, from a riddle-based discovery tour to a cycling route with named stops.

Hiking and Cycling Routes

The blue hiking trail “Szlak ‘Porwanego Księcia’” is 12 km long and runs from Koszalin via Sianów to Góra Chełmska. Its length and destinations give you concrete reference points when planning a hike. Its route is clearly distinct from the city walks: it passes through several places before reaching Góra Chełmska.

Two different route descriptions are available for a cycling trip. The Tychowski Trakt runs from Koszalin via Niekłonice, Świeszyno, Rosnowo, Pobądz and Tyczewo to Tychowo. The Trakt Rybogryfa runs from Koszalin along the foot of Góra Chełmska, via Kłos, Węgorzewo and Policko, to Dzierżęcino. When choosing between the two routes, you can compare the stops listed and each destination: one description ends in Tychowo, the other in Dzierżęcino.

History in Different Formats

The Staromiejska trasa turystyczna is a city walk where visitors can discover historic places and the history of Koszalin. The Koszalińskie Quests offer a different approach: they use riddles to help visitors discover the city’s Gothic monuments. This means a historical city walk and a riddle-based discovery of Gothic monuments are available as distinct formats.

The museum in Koszalin holds historical collections documenting the history of the city and its surrounding area from the earliest times to the present. At its main premises at ul. Młyńska 37–39, it presents permanent and temporary exhibitions on ethnography, archaeology, history, contemporary art and old art. The collections thus span a broad period, while the exhibition topics cover different fields and forms of art.

Buildings also offer insight into the city’s history. The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Koszalin was built between 1300 and 1333. The Ignacego Jana Paderewskiego Amphitheatre was built much later: it was constructed in 1973 as a venue for the Festival of Polish Communities Abroad Choirs, which had been held since 1970. These dates place the two sites in different historical contexts.

Leisure by the Water and Green Spaces

Wodna Dolina was created in 2014 on the Dzierżęcinka River as a recreation and leisure centre. It includes a city beach and a swimming area supervised during the summer season. If you plan to use the swimming area, bear this seasonal restriction in mind. Wodna Dolina is also home to Wakepark Koszalin. Wakeboarding is offered there with a two-mast cable lift, equipment rental and assistance from instructors. The wakepark therefore has a different focus from the city beach: the emphasis is on wakeboarding and the facilities and assistance listed.

Another green space is Park Książąt Pomorskich “A” in Koszalin. It covers 6.70 ha and includes a pond and the Dzierżęcinka River, covering an area of 1.50 ha. Alongside the recreation area on the Dzierżęcinka, the park offers a different perspective on the city’s water-based amenities: here, the pond, river and specified areas are part of the park description.

Koszalin as a Place to Stay

If swimming is part of your plans, keep in mind that the swimming area is supervised seasonally.
