Porost brings together a church with two chapters of religious history, cycling routes with different points of interest, and natural attractions in the village and its surroundings. When planning your visit, it is worth distinguishing between the lakes: Chlewo Wielkie is in Porost and has a bathing area; the Jezioro Piekiełko nature reserve is 2.5 kilometres to the east. The cycling routes also differ: one leads to the lake, another passes through Porost, while a nature trail begins near the village.

Older Church and New Building from 1867

The church in Porost was completely rebuilt as a Protestant church at a new location in 1867. After 1945, the Roman Catholic Church took over the church. The older church in Porost was probably medieval; its bell was cast in 1583 and remained there until 1945. The bell and the new building therefore belong to different construction phases: the bell is associated with the older church, while the present church building dates from the 19th century and stands at the new location. The two dates, 1583 and 1867, point to different periods in the church’s history.

Cycling Routes with Different Points of Interest

The “Rezerwat Buczyna” cycling route leads to Lake Chlewo Wielkie in Porost. The lake has a bathing area with sanitary facilities, tourist infrastructure and food and drink options. The route thus connects with a specific waterside destination where swimming and other tourist services are available.

The Greenway–Naszyjnik Północy passes through Porost. The route’s landscape includes forests and forest edges, fields and villages. Nature watching is possible, and camping and fishing are also among the activities available along the Greenway. The two routes therefore have different focal points: the “Rezerwat Buczyna” cycling route leads to the lake, while the Greenway offers views of the changing landscape along its route.

As an additional link in the cycling network, the Bobolice–Chociwle–Porost cycling route follows a field track towards Porost and connects with the “Rezerwat Buczyna” cycling route. Its description adds another connection within the cycling network to the route through the village and the lake as a destination.

Nature Reserve and Nature Trail

The Jezioro Piekiełko nature reserve lies 2.5 kilometres east of Porost and protects a lobelia lake with relict plants. It is a different natural destination from Lake Chlewo Wielkie: the latter is in the village and has a bathing area, while the eastern reserve is notable for its lobelia lake and relict plants.

A nature education cycling trail begins near the village of Porost, among wooded former farmland on the road towards Drężno. The trail is 6.3 kilometres long and features eleven colourful information boards. They describe botanical formations and interesting animals found in the surrounding area. The trail is therefore distinguished from the Greenway by its boards and their nature-related content, whereas nature watching is possible on the Greenway. Several specific themes can help with orientation: a lake as a destination, landscapes along a route through Porost, or botanical and animal information on the nearby cycling trail.
