Niechorze presents the Baltic coast from several perspectives: its lighthouse stands on a cliff, and from the large pier you can see the coastline and its varied coastal features. There is also fishing culture, models of other lighthouses and the Butterfly House. Maritime architectural history, culture and nature come together here.

The lighthouse and coast from different perspectives

The Niechorze Lighthouse was built in 1866. It is 45 metres high and stands on a 22-metre-high cliff. Its viewing terrace offers views of the sea and the picturesque surroundings. From the large pier, you can see the Niechorze coastline, the transition between the dune coast and the cliff coast, as well as the local lighthouse. Admission to the pier is free when sea conditions are safe.

The routes also give the lighthouse a distinctive place on the coast: it lies on the Lighthouse Trail along the Polish Baltic coast. The international Velo Baltica cycle route, formerly R-10, passes by the lighthouse. The revetment on the high cliff near the lighthouse still serves as a promenade. Here, a striking structure, named coastal routes and a path along the shore offer different ways to experience the coastal landscape.

Fishing culture and lighthouse models

The Ethnographic Park in Niechorze features traditional fishing huts and shares knowledge about the traditions of Baltic fishing. Its educational trails include “Droga Ryby” and “Droga Chleba”. The Museum of Maritime Fisheries was conceived as a centre for sharing knowledge about local fishing culture with visitors and residents. The cultural theme thus ranges from the park’s fishing huts and educational trails to the museum’s educational work.

The Park Miniatur Latarnia Morska in Niechorze offers a different perspective on coastal history. There, visitors can see all the lighthouses on the Polish coast in one place in 45 minutes. The lighthouse models are built to a scale of 1:10. While the Niechorze Lighthouse stands alone on the cliff, the miniature park lets visitors compare it with the other lighthouses on the Polish coast.

Butterflies and nature nearby

At the Butterfly House in Niechorze, you can observe live exotic butterflies moving freely. You can also watch them emerge from their chrysalises. Visitors can learn about the butterflies’ habits and secrets, too. This offers a different nature focus from the birdlife at nearby Lake Liwia Łuża: here, the focus is on individual butterflies and their development; there, on the diversity of bird species.

Lake Liwia Łuża lies south of Niechorze and has been an ornithological reserve since the late 1950s. A total of 133 bird species have been recorded there, including 50 breeding species. East of the Niechorze Lighthouse, a sandy spit separates the lake from the Baltic Sea. As a nearby destination, the lake complements Niechorze’s coastal attractions with its own landscape and birdlife.

There are designated places to launch from the shore at Niechorze’s fishing harbour on Pocztowa Street. Launching is possible there when conditions are safe. The coastal spots in the area therefore serve different purposes: the pier offers views, while the fishing harbour has designated places for launching from the shore.
