Several cycling and hiking trails pass through Kaplityny. Two cycling routes and two hiking trails offer different distances and routes; the red cycling route also comes with specific information about its surface and the cycling skills required. Alongside these trails, a cultural theme shapes Kaplityny as a themed village. This means you can explore the place through its route lengths and landscapes, as well as its angel motif.

Cycling routes: compare distance and surface

The red cycling route is 23.4 kilometres long and runs from Barczewo via Rejczuchy, Sapuny, Bogdany, Kaplityny, Łęgajny, Biedowo and Dąbrówka Mała, returning to Barczewo. A green cycling route is 27 kilometres long and also returns to Barczewo, running via Mokiny, Bogdany, Kaplityny, Łęgajny and Barczewko. The green route is therefore 3.6 kilometres longer; both routes pass through Kaplityny and share several sections of their itineraries.

For the red cycling route, the surface is an important feature as well as its length: more than half the route is on asphalt. Basic off-road cycling skills are required for the remaining sections. The route passes through the hilly landscape of Warmia, with lakes, streams, canals and wetlands. This means the cycling tour can be assessed not only by its distance, but also by its surface and scenery.

Hiking trails around Kaplityny

The blue hiking trail is 5.7 kilometres long and runs from Wójtowo Osiedle Leśne via Kaplityny and back to the starting point. It crosses the Kanał Elżbiety and then, in Kaplityny, leads to a signal-controlled road crossing. Check the details of the blue hiking trail before your trip. The route description thus indicates both the trail's course and a specific crossing in the village.

The black hiking trail is 10 kilometres long and runs from Wójtowo via Kaplityny, Sapunki and Bogdany, returning to Wójtowo. For a short stretch, it meets the blue trail. Along the shared section, both trails cross a bridge over the Kanał Elżbiety. The black trail is 4.3 kilometres longer than the blue one; the shared crossing marks a limited overlap between the two routes.

The angel motif of the themed village

A radio feature broadcast on 26 May 2021 presented Kaplityny as a themed village and mentioned a village angel square and an angel playground. A radio feature broadcast on 23 December 2020 described Wioska Sosnowych Aniołów, created by Krystyna Szter, and associated it with Anielski Plac zabaw dla dzieci. Alongside the trails, the angel motif is a distinct cultural theme.

To compare the excursion options, first consider whether you would rather hike or cycle. Within each activity, the routes differ in length. The red cycling route also has the specific features of its asphalt sections and stretches away from paved paths.
