The “Pętla Ostaszewska” makes Ostaszewo a clearly defined destination for a cycling trip: the green-marked loop is 8.5 kilometres long. Other points of interest include the hills known as terminal moraines, the Centrum Turystyczne with overnight accommodation, and Lake Hartowieckie. This lets you consider cycling, the landscape and a specific accommodation option together when choosing your stay.

Cycling through Ostaszewo

The route runs from Ostaszewo via Rynek, Lorki and Nowe Grodziczno, then back to Ostaszewo. As it is a loop, you can choose your direction. Along the Pętla, there is a rest shelter with benches and a table, as well as information boards about the landscape features. The route is marked in green; as markings can change, check the route information before your trip.

Accommodation and directions

The Centrum Turystyczne in Ostaszewo has 30 overnight places and a fully equipped kitchenette. If having a kitchenette at your accommodation is important to you, this is a specific factor to consider when choosing your stay. As capacity and facilities can change, check both in advance if you are planning to stay at the Centrum.

The grounds include a football pitch, a children’s playground and a covered fire pit. There is also a tourist bicycle rental service at the Centrum. If you would like to combine the cycling route with a rental bike, check the rental service’s current availability.

The Centrum is on provincial road 541 between Lubawa and Lidzbark Welski, and near Welski Landscape Park. If you are using the road details to plan your arrival, check in advance that the road number and route have not changed.

Landscape between hills and lake

The hills of Ostaszewo are described as terminal moraines. The Pętla also offers a way to experience the landscape of the Grodziczno commune, shaped by the inland ice sheet during the Weichselian glaciation. This lets you explore the local landscape through both the named group of hills and the geological features of the route.

Lake Hartowieckie is 2 kilometres from the Centrum Turystyczne and has a large beach and a bathing area. Ostaszewo’s rural settlement stretches along the lake. If you are planning a swim, check the current conditions before your visit; the beach and bathing area may change. This gives you two different themes to choose from: cycling on the Pętla and a swimming stop at the lake.

A cultural connection

The “Ostaszewianki” folk ensemble is part of the local cultural history: it was founded on 2 March 2008 and performed folk songs from regions across Poland at many local events and beyond.
