Zyndaki is now considered a tourist destination. The Krutynia River Trail runs through the village. This trail is a good starting point if you are considering the Krutynia when choosing your destination. The surrounding area also features a lake landscape and the history of a Prussian hillfort. For trip planning, it is helpful to distinguish between locations: the trail runs through Zyndaki, while some landscape and historical features are in the surrounding area.
Waterscape and the Krutynia
Zyndaki and Warpuny lie on the eastern shore of Lake Warpuńskie. This lake is shallow and has a uniformly formed bottom. In the southern part of Lake Zyndackie, there is a small island surrounded by reeds. The lakes can therefore be distinguished by different features: Lake Warpuńskie is notable for its shallow depth and uniform bottom, while Lake Zyndackie is notable for its island in the reeds. If the lake landscape is important to your choice of destination, these differences can help you pinpoint what interests you about the area.
The Krutynia can also be viewed at two different scales. The Krutynia River Trail runs through Zyndaki. The upper course of the Krutynia is formed by streams connecting Lakes Warpuńskie, Zyndackie, Gielądzkie, Lampackie, and Lampasz. This places the trail’s specific connection to the village alongside a broader context of waterways. The trail and the lakes’ connection describe different spatial levels: one concerns the route through Zyndaki, the other the upper course linking several lakes. Together, these points of reference provide orientation without equating the trail in the village with the entire water system.
Hillfort and local history
Zyndaki’s history offers two different points of reference in time. The first written records about the village date from 1373. Archaeological work in 1930 showed that a Prussian hillfort site existed in Zyndaki. The dates refer to different types of historical information: 1373 refers to the written records about Zyndaki, while 1930 refers to archaeological work on the hillfort site. This distinction helps place the settlement’s history and the site’s archaeological history in separate contexts.
The visible remains of the hillfort today form a mound about two metres high, west of Zyndaki on an isthmus between Lake Zyndackie and Lake Warpuńskie. This gives the historical remains a specific location: the mound lies west of the village and between the two bodies of water. Its location connects the historical site with the lake landscape without equating the hillfort remains with the trail that runs through Zyndaki.
Understanding Zyndaki as a destination
The trail through the village, the distinct features of the two lakes, and the hillfort mound to the west offer different points of interest.
