A former manor park, a manor settlement that developed over centuries, and several protected-area designations give Kozłowo a distinct character. Cultural history and nature are both central to the area. Agrotourism has also developed; Kozłowo is known for its landscape, recreational appeal and agricultural character. If you are looking for a hotel for your trip, these features can help guide your choice of destination.

Manor history in the park and village landscape

Kozłowo’s history dates back to the 14th century. The village was established in the so-called Wildenow area, when Grand Master Konrad Zöllner von Rothenstein granted Philipp Wildenaw a total of 350 włóks under Kulm law in 1388. In 1483, the manor was divided between Maciej Wyselin and Piotr Wildenaw, giving rise to the Kozłowo and Rybno manors. These two dates mark different stages in the area’s history: first the grant of the land, and later the division of the manor.

The development of Kozłowo as a manor settlement is also part of its character: the buildings developed in a form typical of a manor. Its educational history includes a one-class school founded under noble patronage before 1740. The former manor park, dating from the 18th or 19th century, has been preserved and protected. It is listed in the regional register of immovable monuments under reference number A-1490; the entry is dated 26 October 1983.

The former manor also includes the palace, which was partially damaged by a fire in 2007. The park, settlement layout and palace offer different ways to explore Kozłowo’s manor history. The area’s history is not limited to a single date: the land grant, the later division and the development of the settlement took place over several centuries.

Natural surroundings and documented birdlife

Kozłowo lies within the Puszcza Piska Natura 2000 area. Part of Kozłowo lies within the Ostoja Piska Natura 2000 Special Area of Conservation, and part within the Rzeka Babant i Jezioro Białe landscape and nature complex. Those interested in the nature around the area will find both a wider protected-area designation and named local areas.

An ecological assessment in 2011 recorded a total of 84 bird species across 690 hectares in the Kozłowo area, including 14 species listed in Annex I of the EU Birds Directive. Species mentioned include the lesser spotted eagle, white-tailed eagle, white stork, common crane and woodlark. These figures describe the findings of the 2011 assessment, not a current count. They give the area’s natural environment a specific historical profile, distinct from its manor-related themes.

Events with specific dates

Events also reflect a range of local themes. The first nationwide lumberjack competition in Kozłowo took place on 16 and 17 May 2025. The Polish Lumberjack Championships were scheduled to take place in Kozłowo on 19 and 20 September 2026. Both references concern events with specific dates and do not indicate that they are held regularly.

At the Święto Chleba, Miodu i Mleka on 23 May 2026, a bread-making demonstration, beekeeping workshops and tastings of dishes made with milk and honey were planned. The village sports field in Kozłowo was the planned venue. These examples add themes of crafts, agriculture and regional food culture to the area’s history and natural surroundings; the listed programme items are specific to this date.
