Lake Mój is the focus of Czerniki’s recreational activities by the water: the beach area offers places to relax and enjoy active pursuits. There is also a nature trail along the shady shore, a protected church building and a planned section of cycling route. These features also differ in their timing: the cycling route section was a plan, and workshops were held as part of a past event.

Leisure on Lake Mój

The beach area in Czerniki offers places to relax and enjoy active pursuits by the lake. The recreation area on Lake Mój also includes a nature trail with leisure facilities along the shady shore. On hot days, the shade offers protection from the sun. This stretch of lakeshore therefore offers both tranquillity and active recreation. The nature trail is another part of the area, complementing the beach with its own route along the shore. If you consider time by the water an important factor when choosing a destination, these different features give you a clear idea of what makes Czerniki on Lake Mój distinctive.

A planned cycling route section

The second section of the Kętrzyn–Gierłoż–Parcz cycling route was planned as a 4.5-kilometre stretch designed to be safe and comfortable. It was to start near the recreation area on Lake Mój in Czerniki and end near the railway viaduct in Parcz. The plan envisaged providing access to tourist attractions such as Wilczy Szaniec (Wolf’s Lair), the “Wilczego Lotniska” State Forests, the former Hitler headquarters in Gierłoż and Mazurolandia. A plan presented in 2024 gave September 2025 as the expected completion date. Before planning a specific cycling trip, check whether the section has since been completed and opened. The plan links the starting point near the lake with named attractions and a destination in Parcz, making it a different part of a trip from leisure by the shore.

Church and festival traditions

The parish church of Saint John in Czerniki is listed in Poland’s register of historic monuments. Its registered status gives the town’s cultural landscape a historical point of reference. A Noc Świętojańska held at the recreation area on Lake Mój offered a different cultural focus: the event included workshops on wreath-making and making floral soaps and herbal bath salts. Czerniki therefore has both a permanent heritage designation and crafts associated with a past festival. The workshops should be understood as part of that event, not as a programme guaranteed to be available on a future trip.

What to consider when planning your trip

Your choice depends on which theme you want to shape your stay. Leisure by the lake is the local focus, offering a choice between relaxing and active pursuits, while the church provides a cultural highlight. The cycling route section, by contrast, remains tied to its planned status, and the workshops mentioned were part of a past event. If a cycling trip or workshop is a deciding factor, check the current status or suitable event dates before making plans. This will help you decide whether to focus on Czerniki’s leisure opportunities around Lake Mój or the town’s other cultural associations.
