In Siemiany, Lake Jeziorak offers different ways to experience the area: an observation tower by the shore, walking and cycling routes, and a sailing route. For planning your trip, the main differences are the time required and the role the town plays on each route: the blue hiking trail ends in Siemiany, the cycling route passes through the town as one point on a longer loop, and the sailing route runs between Iława and Jerzwałd, with Siemiany in between.

Lakeside location and views of Lake Jeziorak

Siemiany is situated on a high lakeside escarpment above Lake Jeziorak, described as Poland’s longest lake. The 14-meter-high observation tower stands by the shore. From there, you can look out over the lake, whose shoreline has a varied shape and includes several islands. This distinguishes the town’s location from its viewpoint: the escarpment describes where the town is situated, while the tower offers a view of the water, shoreline, and islands from close to the shore.

Hiking and cycling: different route distances

The blue hiking trail runs from Iława via Sarnówek, Widłągi Bay, and Rożek to Siemiany. It is 26 kilometers long, and the walk takes about 5.5 hours. These details give the hike a clear time frame and show that Siemiany is the destination on a longer route, not just a single viewpoint. Most of the trail passes through the Iława Lake District Landscape Park. The distance and walking time refer to the entire trail from Iława to Siemiany, not to a walk around the town.

The cycling tour is measured differently. The 86.5-kilometer “Wokół Jezioraka” circular route passes through Siemiany at kilometer 20.8. From there, it continues through forests toward Jerzwałd. Several signposted local cycling paths also branch off in different directions in Siemiany. Comparing the routes helps put them in perspective: an approximate walking time is given for the hiking trail, while the cycling route is described by its total distance and kilometer mark. The 5.5 hours for the hike and the 86.5 kilometers for the cycling loop therefore measure different things and cannot be compared as equivalent time values. The kilometer mark shows where Siemiany lies on the full cycling loop.

Sailing and culture by the water

On Lakes Jeziorak and Płaskie, the sailing route runs from Iława via Siemiany to Jerzwałd. Unlike the blue hiking trail, which ends in Siemiany, here the town is a stopping point along the way. Siemiany has a sailing eco-marina with moorings for several dozen yachts. The area around the observation tower is well developed for sailing and camping tourism. Alongside the routes, this provides practical options for a stay focused on sailing and camping.

Culture can also influence when you travel. The annual “Nad Jeziorakiem” festival features music, cabaret, and art in a picturesque amphitheater on Lake Jeziorak. The individual editions and dates vary. If you want to plan your stay around the festival, check the dates for the relevant edition.
