Lipińskie was founded under Magdeburg rights in 1487. Three specific topics are central to planning a trip: local history, information about green cycling routes, and historic traces in the immediate surroundings. They can be considered separately: the route descriptions offer different guidance for choosing a route, the founding year and place names provide historical context, and the nearby sites each offer their own geographic reference points. Planning can therefore begin with the question of whether you are most interested in a cycling route, historical development, or the surrounding area. You can weigh these topics individually rather than deriving a fixed daily itinerary from them.

Choose Green Cycling Routes by Their Course

The green-marked Giżycko–Wydminy–Miłki–Giżycko cycling route is 61 km long and passes through Lipińskie. The PTTK listing gives this distance and also notes a discrepancy with the official figure of 71 km. For planning, it is therefore important not to combine the two figures into a single value: 61 km is the specific figure in the listing, while 71 km is the official figure given alongside it. The route is described as a loop via Giżycko, Wydminy, and Miłki. Check the current signage and the condition of the route before setting out.

Another green-marked cycling route runs from Miłki through Lipińskie toward Szczepanki and Wydminy. In a tourist listing whose page is dated 2007–2009, it was given as “41 + 20 km.” Unlike the first description, with its sequence Giżycko–Wydminy–Miłki–Giżycko, this listing is oriented around Miłki as the starting point and the direction of Szczepanki and Wydminy. Both routes are marked green; they can therefore be distinguished by the place names given and the respective distance entry: 61 km for the loop, and “41 + 20 km” for the listing starting from Miłki. This lets you match each figure to the course described without assuming that the color alone identifies a particular route.

Founding and Former Place Names

Lipińskie was historically known as Lipiensken and was called Lindenwiese from 1928 to 1945; the settlement was founded under Magdeburg rights in 1487. In the historical timeline, the founding year comes before the later period in which Lindenwiese was used: 1487 marks the founding, while 1928 to 1945 is the period when Lindenwiese was used. Lipiensken is also part of the settlement’s historical naming and adds another name to this sequence. To understand the timeline, it is important not to read the former names as names used at the same time. This keeps the founding and the history of the names as two distinct points of reference when learning about Lipińskie.

Historic Traces in the Surrounding Area

Two other historic traces lie in the immediate vicinity. In the fields between Lipińskie and Lipowy Dwór, ruins of World War II bunkers can be seen on the right side of the road; they form part of the so-called Lötzen Fortification Zone. An abandoned Masurian cemetery lies about 100 meters beyond the last buildings in Lipińskie. The two descriptions offer different points of reference: for the bunkers, these are the fields between the two settlements and the right side of the road; for the cemetery, the approximate distance beyond the last buildings. If you would like to visit these sites, check in advance whether access is possible.
